Keyless go, Here is a strange one....
Have 2 Keyless go vehicles, my W212 and my 2010 ML550. I have noticed that when I carry both keys in one pocket sometimes I get "key not recognized" on the MFD when I go to start either vehicle. When I separate the keys, one in each pocket it never happens and works just fine. Not a problem but I thought it odd that there may be some interference between the keys. This happens about once every 15 times I go to start either vehicle with the keys together in one pocket. Anyone else experience this?? Any thoughts on the root cause??

Unless the Keyless Go components have changed, I'd say it might just be coincidence. I carry 2, sometimes 3, different KG keys for different vehicles and never once ran into this issue.

When I start getting the 'key not recognized' message it has always been fixed by changing the batteries in the remote. Maybe you could try that...

Actually I thought it was coincidental also but I tested it. Two weeks with the keys kept together in one pocket, occurred 7 times with both vehicles. Two weeks with the keys kept in separate pockets, never happened with either vehicle. As far as the batteries are concerned my ML550 is just 5 months old and the new E is just 2 months old. Batteries should be very good in both keys. I am puzzled by this. Nothing I can't live with and do not even think it can be corrected. Never happened with my wife but she carries only the key to the E Class.

“Never store the SmartKey with another Smartkey doing so could impair the function”. Each key transits unique RF authorization code.

Thanks Konigstiger, That creates another issue if a cell phone will cause a problem. Guess I will have to purchase pants with a third, maybe a 4th pocket just for the keys. Can't use my shirt pocket as I carry a cigarette pack there and that has foil in it! Actually as I stated the only issue is when both keys are in one pocket, does not seem to have an issue with my cell phone in that pocket also.

In any case the recommendation should not mean that two other keys for two other cars could not be put to the same pocket because those do not need to work well (not at all) in the car in question. You can do it with two pockets then but one may need to be a big one if you have a big cell phone and several keys.
