Do you trust Parktronic to work on curbs?

I know parktronic works for proximity to the bumpers but does it also work for lower curbs and parking stops too?

I was parking in a spot that had a really high curb so I slowed into the spot while keeping an eye on the partronic lights. I eased up, then got out of the car to take a look and then drove up and stopped when the red lights came on. It worked.

However at a different location that had a lower curb, the parktronic warning responded differently. I'm still not confident that the sensors work well enough for me to completely trust it.

What has your experiences been?

I think the sensors are only located in the bumper area correct? If so, it would probably have to be a pretty high curb.

Either way, I'd trust them for objects such as cars, poles, walls, etc., but I'd use the rear-view dipping mirror for curbs.

The rear view mirror would work for side parking but I was referring to head in parking (I should of made that more clear in my post).

You cannot count on Parktronic for the curb in front of the car.

I have the Parktronics as well; and here in Cali, our curbs are low...NEVER works except for anything bumper height. But at that it does work wonders...

Interesting topic. I wonder how tough it would be to add a front view camera that you could activate to see how close the front bumper is getting to the parking spot curb. I myself have a tough time judging the distance as well.

Unfortunately, I found out the hard way just the other day when I hit what I thought was a lower curb. No real visible damage, just a scrape on the bottom of the front bumper. I will be much more careful in the future - maybe even raise the suspension before I park!

I agree... that Parktronic doesn't work well on low curbs in CA (ones that may or may not scrape your bumper). On higher curbs (like foglight-height), however, Parktronic works pretty well. I myself have never totally trusted electronics to accurately judge distances though, so I still get out and check sometimes if I'm unsure.

never trust these systems on low curbs. I have yet to see a mfr that offered them that worked to protect the lower fascia. Had a BMW 6 series before this and same issue.

We have parktronic on our R350 and eventhough it's slightly higher than my dads W212 sport E350 my wife has managed to scrape the front lip a little. I only trust the system personally for bumper height objects.

No parking system is ment to warn you of curbs. They are to alert you of obsictals not sidewalks and those cement blocks that are about the size of sidewalks. Altho its a good one for car companys to start working on. Actually the more I think about it. Like Infiniti's system ( Top view camera ) is probably gona be the next big feature. BMW has just started to use it too.

distance adjust?

is it possible to adjust the distance at which it starts (and or beeps)? I find the default uncomfortably close.

Agree, it doesn't see curbs and seems doesn't suppose to do. So be prepared to have bottom of front bumper scratched badly.
