How long before you can Wax your brand new Car? Dealer said 6 months?
I tried to get my car Detailed/Waxed when I bought it (so I don't have to do it myself for a bit), and the Salesman said the paint has to cure for 6 months, so they just washed it.
It got me thinking, that seems a bit long ay?
I assume maybe it's already waxed from the Factory, or some sort of protection is applied for the duration of what a Waxing session would be?
Or they were just trying to get out of giving me a free Wax.

The salesman is as wacked as those BMW salespeople
I think that's what's called an urban myth
Any detailer and manufacturer will tell you to go for it. The paint won't fall off. The car was built a few months ago anyway. In fact, you'll probably want to fix what the dealer already screwed up by "prepping" the car for delivery. Check Autopia.com for the specifics.
p.s., my body shop has always said to wait one week or so after they've sprayed and clear-coated.....

Friggin' Dealership people.
6 months is ridiculous. From what I've gathered, New Cars are usually cured anyway.
The car was built in April, so I assume it's been alive for at least a month and a half or so.
Probably don't want them doing a lazy Wax job anyway. Time to get the hands dirty and take a "Wax Day".

I have had mine for over 4 months now and the water still beads off really well so I assume it must have been waxed at delivery.

^^ At Delivery means when the Dealer got it I assume yeah?
If so, I'm wondering if my Dealer didn't do that, due to their purported "6 Months" BS.
I wonder if the factory applies any sort of protectant themselves as well?

It's crap. In fact, I have my new cars delivered WITHOUT and dealer prep/wax/polish mumbo jumbo because I can do a much better job. Besides, if they start it off, then I have to strip it all away to apply the Zaino products anyway, so it adds an extra step.
I've done this many times and NEVER looked back. Hell, I don't even let them WASH my car when they have it for service!!!

water beading is on good if you're into water spots. Use a good sheeting product instead.

Mine was built 0210 and I got it on March 1st. I did my first personal wash and wax (Nano Wax) two days later. I have always done that on my new cars - just in case there is a scratch(es) that need dealer attention (there were none on the E350).

Ah.
Well, looks like I'll be really getting to know the lines of this car, which I once detested so vigorously, very personally in the coming weeks. No better way to "get to know" your vehicle than to have some Wax time with it.
I can't help but cringe at the long and tedious process though. I used to be more willing to do it.
Damn Salesman totally screwed me on that one. I'm still wondering if it was Waxed upon Delivery (meaning it wouldn't need another one for another couple months or so). I hate feeling like the car has no protectant on the paint, so I'll just do it anyway.

Here also. Dealers always instructed not to wash my car. Who knows what the delaer is using to wash/dry your car. No one is going to wash my car as carefully I do, and if I scratch it, then I have only myself to blame.
For a brand new car - Dawn wash - paint cleansing (optional) - clay - very light polishing (optional) and you are ready for your favorite sealant, wax. Even a wipe on walk away (WOWA) product could be used such as Zaino Clear Seal or Optimum Opti-Seal.

Factory paint is baked on, thus the curing time (usually 2-3 mos) with a body shop paint job is unnecessary. You can wax as soon as you have the car.
I washed & waxed my black E550 (built November 2009) as soon as it was delivered to me on December 13, 2009. Rewaxed every 2 months since. No problems with paint so far. Love the Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0!
