I got a check engine light today so I hooked up the OBD II.
It reads P0496 - EVAP Emissions High Purge Flow Fault.
Anyone know what this is?

Fuel cap off or loose? That would certainly cause high purge flow.

I checked that and it was on as tight as it would go, although it could be the seal.

Open gas cap, close it again. The code will probably clear in a few days of driving.

If it happens shortly after gassing up then it is most likely the gas cap.

No need for a new gas cap or additives. Just retighten the cap and drive for a week.

You might want to take a look at both the cap and the filler tube to see if they are clean.

I had similar code come up but never got a CEL or anything from it alone. Or to clarify, I had a misfire from a bad ignition coil giving me a CEL but once I replaced ignition coil CEL never came back. Even though I was advise to get similar parts to the ones you've mentioned replace at that same time.
Idk what they look like or where they are located exactly, I can say the parts and labor ran me about 1k to get fixed based on the estimate they gave me. So I said if no CEL comes back I'm gonna leave it. I have a buddy whose a mechanic and he said it's apart of the emissions system and if I needed to pass inspection, I'd probably fail if these codes are still there or if this is a real issue. Luckily I got inspected a couple of months beforehand so I'm good for two years

He did tell me a few other things but this was a couple months back so I forget all of it but he did say a CEL should come back if it was really major issue. I can grab the printout for the estimations per part if you like when I get home to my car binder that I keep.

Oh one other thing, I was getting serviced at STS and they told me those parts can only be bought from the dealer. So they may have charged me a little more in the estimate since they were going to pick the parts up from the dealer for me.

I have a 2010 E550 RWD 107K Miles

I have the same problem on my R350 2008, it not gas cap, I checked, its not purge valve, I have replaced this too, may be charcoal canister?
I have not checked this yet, any other ideas?

Did you ever figure this out? My CEL is on, tested purge solenoid valve, not an issue. Gas cap was tightening past one click so I replaced it and cleared the code. Stayed clear and gas mileage was fine for about a week. Came back on and gas mileage is back to being horrible. I don't smell any fuel near the rear quarter panel, no leaks, no problems filling up. Anyone have any ideas or solutions? Thank you in advance!
