1st oil change

I have approx 5k miles on my 2010 E550 and approaching 1 year of driving. Do I change oil before the 10k mile recomended oil change interval or should I wait until I reach 10k miles? Thanks in advance.

fwiw, I like to replace the break-in oil on all my new cars. It's not that the syn oil will go bad before 10k, since these oils are all extended interval oils.

But if you do an oil analysis you can also see how things are going in respect to excessive metals and silicon (from new engine seals.) Here's a thread on my own oil use in my most current car: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...6-2-motor.html

I just prefer to change the original fill oil earlier. But it's your dime.

Since the oil is a year old combined with the fact that it is the break-in oil, I would change the oil even if you have not reached the mileage criteria.

Just out of curiosity, do you have to change Oil/Service the car when the computer says, even if you haven't put on near the 10K Miles, when it says the time limit is up? Meaning, are there any Warranty issues, etc. if something goes wrong? And if so, what's an "acceptable" time frame you can push it to?

For the record, my last car I only put 4K Miles a year on it, and had to do two Services due to the damn time limit, so I'm not one to skimp out on my car. But I just don't really get how the whole thing works with M-B.

Yes; you need to do it when the car tells you it is time. MB will only honor warranties on a vehicle that is/has been properly maintained. It should be in the Lease Agreement under the warranty part.

My SA was telling me that there were certain cases when people leased their MB and never brought it in for service during the time of their lease. During the post lease inspection the dash lit up like a Christmas Tree and the engine was virtually running on sludge. Needless to say they were charged a hefty sum.

MB recommends 1yr or 10k miles which ever comes 1st for the 1st oil change. Around 6k is when I plan on having the 1st change done based on research & experience from two previous new cars. I've heard that changing the oil too soon on a new engine could be worse than waiting for the recommended interval. Porsche's interval is 2yr/20k miles using the same mobil 1 synthetic!
