Was it an accident or just a side air bag deployment? It's rare but side air bags have been known to go off aside from being in an accident (the sensors are under the car and can fire an airbag if they get hit by debris.)
The air bag can do some inside damage but I'm assuming it's been repaired properly.
If the car was in an accident, check the repair invoice and also take it down to a good body shop and have them carefully check out the car.
But why buy one if it's been in an accident? They are plenty of used E Class 5.5 cars out there.

I would skip it alltogether. Even if you can get an absurd discount of like 50%....its still real money. My view is these cars are so complex and have so many sensors and components that are complex to fix - that there might be something whose life was shortened that pops up later as a hard to find/fix issue. Even if you have a warranty/etc its still your time and safety on the line.
Maybe im paranoid but....if it were my money I'd skip it.
IS this a 2010 or earlier?
