Video Use in Motion?

In the 2010 E-Class, is there a way to watch movies in the car while the car is in motion rather than just in park? That way the passenger may enjoy a movie or something? Thanks for the info!

It works...You have to take the dash apart to install it. A shop here in Philly does the install for about 160 bucks.

Is there anyways a 212 Command would fit in a 211, allowing this function to work or only a 211 Euro command can make it happen?

The 212 Comand on a W211 is unrealistic. But why not put an NTG2.5 instead, it is pretty much the same as the NTG4 on a W212.

A Euro Comand NTG1 would be a lot easier to install.

Thanks much for the reply.....I am headed to Hungary for 3 weeks and can possibly pick some parts up.....I am in the USA with a USA model W211.026

What is a Euro NTG1? A standard euro command for W211? However in this case the radio stations are messed up, and the Nav disk has to be tricked to work...in the USA W211's

The NTG2.5, also, if possible, please clarify what this is?

I have been looking at www.dension(dotcom) and www.cartronics(dotcom) for ideas, basically, I would love to be able to use my Command to have Video in Motion while driving, but USA Command pre 09 do not have a built in DVD player, only a CD player. I have the 6 disk changer as well under the motorized door, and I have the Nav DVD player in the trunk.

Many thanks for any ideas to solve this. The car is new to me, and thus I am researching the best and most cost effective method to accomplish this.

Thanks very much..

NTG1 is the Comand W211 cars had until May 2008 (build date), from June 2008 onwards W211 was fitted with a more modern NTG2.5 Comand.

European NTG1 can play DVD and can easily be programmed to play video in motion (with Star). NTG2.5 plays video too but needs a CAN-bus filter to enable VIM. The new head unit fits physically but needs quite a lot of wiring to be changed to work on a W211 that was previously fitted with NTG1 Comand.

The W211 forum is full of info about this mod.

If anybody wants the VIM Kit for the w212, I have one for sale for $200 (wife vetoed the idea after I bought it). It's plug and play. Can be self-installed (requires removal of radio head-unit in a few fairly easy steps. The wiring is a little complicated I guess, but nothing is cut. Midcity engineerin has some youtube videos that walk you through the process. Otherwise, a pro can install for cheap depending where you live.

Email me if you're interested.

Please do. Good luck and once installed be CAREFULL...I almost rear ended another car on the Expressway yesterday going 60mph when I got distracted. Scared the cr#p out of me. Totally my fault. came within an inch of smashing up my new Benz. Must say the brakes performed better than I could have imagined (after reading CA's review).

I will be careful bro... i bought the module not for the VIM part but so that I can put in an address manually while driving.... But for sure it doesn't hurt when you have long trips with a passenger... a DVD would be nice..

Still selling:

Video-in-motion interface fully integrated in the vehicle infotainment

To be clear, this is apparently not exactly the same modeule as that Mid City Engineering sells, but is similar and enables same functions.

Installation instructions included with it reference the following for tech support:

Yes, it enables video playback and navigation entry while driving. According to the seller I bought from, it is identical in function to the Mid City Engineering version, and installation is similar -- though, apparently the module itself is a little different.

Installation appears to be a little tricky by looking at the instructions, though the seller claims it's very easy. I can send the instructions along (pdf) if somebody wants to take a look first. Or, if you are familiar with car electronics (i'm not), I suspect this will indeed be very easy.

Selling because I bought this, then my wife said no way when she realized what it does.
