I ended up buying this, and I tell you, it works flawlessly. It was fairly hard to install. It took me a few hours to remove the radio and put it back, but overall, it is one of the best things I ever bought. I highly recommend it. Others are selling it on ebay for about $160, and it is definitely worth it... While in motion, it does everything exactly the same as if you were stopped (navigation and video). There are no activation buttons or anything. It just works. I see no reason why anyone would spend $500 on the unit from Mid City Engineering. This one's just awesome

Do you have navigation in your car? Have you figured out how it hesitates with poor accuracy at turns when the car has no speed signal any more?

Midcity at lest used to have a device that can be activated/deactivated from the steering wheel buttons which is a must if you want to enjoy your navigation properly.

I have not checked the Midcity products lately but are you referring to a more complex device if the price is $500, perhaps it includes some external video inputs, reversing camera or other features?

hmmm... I haven't noticed that yet. I'll check it today to see if it effects my navigation accuracy. That would suck, if it does.

So, I paid close attention to it for a few days and I didn't notice any delay at all. so far, the navigation looks completely normal.

did you have to remove that trim along the dash? (that wood or carbon fiber trim). Was it hard? Cause i installed that thing in my previous W204 and it was just removing the vents, ac controls and comand. And here I worry about the trim that pins or something can get damaged.

Yeah, I had to remove it. That one wasn't too hard, but it took me a while to figure out how to remove the center vents. that was probably the hardest part. If I ever have to do it all over again, it won't be that hard though. The first time it took me about 4 hours, but I think next time I can do it in about half an hour.

Jumper can you do up a lil DIY write up for us so we dont have to go thru the process of figuring it out like you did or at least big things to pay attention to when doing the install so we dont brake anything... Wives seem to get upset when you break something in the new car for some reason.

Actually, I got a bunch of pdf files showing how to do it. I'll post them all as soon as I can gather them up.

It is an issue when you have poor/no GPS signal and the system needs to estimate the car movement from the speed signal and "gyros" (I assume NTG4 does not use "mechanical" gyros any more but something equivalent electronic).

Owners should have WIS documents for things like this. It would probably still take an hour for the first time if you can do it in half an hour the second time but most of all there are some steps where parts can easily get broken if good instructions are not available.

You seem to be pretty clever if you were able to find out how to properly remove the centre air vents.

Workshop instructions are available for ordinary car owners in the US, not for free but not expensive either (Startekinfo).

Warranty voided?

I would assume with my dealings with MB and other manufacturers that this modification would void the warranty for all audio, navigation, telephone, etc. Basically the whole COMAND system.
Can the driver view the "movie" also?
Long term, by people bypassing this important safety feature, it leads credence to the NHTSA's and other groups call for more controls over these devices.
One manufacturer does have a system where the passenger can see the movie, but the driver only sees the normal display.
Eventually we will lose them because we have abused the products.
