Tracers,

I plasti-dipped everything in December 2013 and so It's been a while. It's held up relatively well, but do see a bit of wear which is caused by many factors including:
-weather
-sun exposure
-weekly car washes

The one thing that destroyed my plasti-dipped and made it look horrible was when a detailer I don't normally use put wax all over it and now some of the trim has white streaks that I can't get rid of unless I take a rag and whip a gel based tire shine on it. And unfortunately the tire shine is only a temporary cosmetic fix I would say with good care it only has to be redone every year or so.

Plastidip longevity is also based very heavily on how you apply it, and how many coats.

5-6 light coats will make a vastly superior final product than 2-3 medium coats, the reason is the adhesion of the plastidip to itself.

I had the roof of my previous car ('06 STi) plastidipped through 1 full summer and 1 full winter with no issues, I was careful with detailing products around it though.

When you apply with 5-6 coats, the plasti dip will peel off in 1 sheet when you want to change it up, or remove it entirely.

Having your roof done and having trim is completely different. Though application is the same, the care has to be more tedious for trim due to the plasti-dip not covering a lot of surface area. So obviously my rims and grill are ten times easier to care for than window trim and emblems. I bet your roof was easy to maintain as well.

I also had the interior center console done, and likewise it really boils down to the application technique used. more coats = better with plastidip.

Well, duh. But like I said, I only had a problem when the detailer didn't know plast-dip and got wax all over it. No matter how good the technique or how many coats, car wax will f*ck it up. That's all.

I was also planning on either trying to get the insignia in black, and some kind of black grill instead of chrome.......or steel or whatever they are. I'd like the rear lettering to be black too. E550 4matic would look good in black. That way you'd have to be be right behind me to identify the car.....unless you're a fan....
I personally think debadging is a much better look then painting the badges black. That was the first thing I did along with removing the dealer tag frame and replacing it with a plain black one.

Remove the E/4matic badges and paint the MB star on the trunk black instead. Plus it keeps those who like MB's guessing what's under the hood.
