Anybody got Blind Spot Assist ?
Just curious if the feature is really helpful ? Edmunds says in a crowded city like LA it generates false alarms all the time ... Is it worth getting ?

The feature is 100% useful. In my 2011 model, it is called active blind spot instead of just regular blind spot. I go to a crowded area, bumper to bumper, etc everyday and it is very useful. Go get it if you can.
My 2 cents.

I also have blind spot and lane assist and I find them very useful. However mine is not active and will not make the correction automatically. It only gives me a warning.
The active assist is part of the Advanced Driver Assistance Package(Canada) which was delayed for the early 2011 production. I would have gone with that one if it had been available at that trime but I could not wait.

I have the unassisted version (2010)... it works.
Just get it.
Just in passing... I regretfully did not get the distronic. It really works beautifully. Strongly consider getting that too.

OTOH, it saved an idiot. I entered a freeway and accelerated hard. Looked in my mirrors and saw nothing. Signaled that I was going to change lanes. The system gave me a heated warning that something was in my blindspot. Kept accelerating up to about 80 mph. Again signaled. Again got a warning, but still saw nothing. I decided to hit the brakes, and a guy and his girlfriend/wife shot past on a motorcycle. The only possible explanation is that the idiot was trying to block my entry onto the freeway (something that is common in the DC area) since he must have been accelerating lockstep with me whilst staying in my blindspot. Any other car, I would've pulled over into his lap. Idiot.
It really is a good system. In my experience, you know for sure when you get a false alarm, but you also know when the alarm is real. And, if recollection serves, since it is part of the Distronic plus system, it is definitely worthwhile. The adaptive cruise control alone makes it worthwhile.

Just watched Star wars and certainly all war ships have the system, otherwise they crashed immediately. Moving on such speed and do not hit walls other ships or elements of constructions are possible only having distronic, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot assist. Certainly E class is car of future.

Blind Spot Assist
I have blind spot assist on my Y2010 and use it everyday, it is one of my favorite features.
Can anyone tell me what active blind spot assist does that the non-active version can't?

+1 for getting Blind Spot Assist.
The difference between active and passive is that passive simply warns you (beep and red light) versus the active system which will actively brake one side of the car to prevent you from merging into a car that is driving in your blind spot.

Wow
Between disctronic and active blind spot assist it kind of takes the fun out of driving.
Bon-active blind spot assist saved me this morning in a down pour before the sun came up.

I drive in NYC all the time incl in and out from the burbs and dont get false alarms (I cant recall getting one). It is an excellent feature - only downside being as you grow reliant on it.
Ditto the comment on distronic. I got it and, in spite of the high cost - I have to say its worth it. The "closing distance" alarm that it comes with has been helpful several times for me.
