W212 4.7L Twin Turbo Engine???
I hear there's going to be a new 4.7L Twin Turbo engine that produces 425HP from this site http://www.autoguide.com/manufacture...view-1379.html. I just placed an order on a 2011 E550 4matic. Is 2011 the last year for the retired 5.5L engine? Are 2012 W212s getting the new 4.7L Twin Turbo engine?

not sure i'd wanna be a buyer in the first year for an engine as complex as these new direct injection twin turbos....seems like it took BMW a few years to get it right with all the problems with the twin turbo 6 cyl. Engine sounds like a rocket though!!!

Agreed. I have gotten hosed too many times on initial runs of new engines and transmissions. I am envious of the sound of it however.

In 2007, my wife got the BMW 335 coupe with tt. Many problems with the fuel delivery system but a powerful engine. The problems are still not resolved and continue to this day. It is not certain if it's the tt that causes the problem or the direct injection, in any event BMW extended the warranty on the fuel sydtem to ten years. Porsche is also having some issues with direct injection on the 997. I'm not sure if I would want to own the first year model even though the risk should be very small.

M-B's engines are usually bulletproof and trouble free. But it seems like everyone is having (at least initial) problem with DI Engines so far.
BTW, too bad M-B can't get their Transmission right. I thought my '06 E-Class had so many problems with the "jerky/inconsistent" 7G due to it being an early version. My 2010's is the same thing. Practically perfect in "C" Mode, but a mess in Sport mode. Occasional "drop-outs" followed by a bump/jerk back, etc.

For the record the BMW issues are related to the high pressure fuel pump. BMW is well aware of the problem and just replaced the HPFP on our 135i @ 23000 miles pretty much out of precaution. It had an extended start once or twice but that was all. In my experience with other car manufacturers they want to be able to replicate problems before taking any action.
The N54 3L I6 TT from BMW is a beast of an engine and is fantastic. Early cars without oil coolers had cooling issues, since resolved. The HPFP issue is ongoing. That would not deter me from having 10 BMWs with this engine if I could, though. It's worth it!
