Installing Active Blind Spot

Hi everybody,
I talked to the dealer to install Active Blind Spot on E350 - 2010 but they said this must be done at the factory, we can't do it here. Is that correct? Thanks

The only company I'd trust to do that conversion is http://www.mbenznl.nl/ . While they are based in the Netherlands, they do travel the world to do the install. Check out the projects on their web site to see some of the upgrades they have done. The Dealers really are not set up to do this type of stuff.

What's the difference between the active blind spot, and the regular blind spot? Mine is a 2010 model, and I only have the regular one.

Maybe active one locks steering wheel, at least it shakes it for 5 series.

Active will brake on the opposite side which helps steer you back into your lane. Regular is just the warning and you have to steer yourself back into your lane.

I was in a situation when I started changing line a car was in blind spot; however another car noticing my intention, just started taking my place. So it was funny situation ended by pushing away a car from blind spot to a shoulder. I hope active blind spot system monitors both sides.

I agree with Dema, the active thing sounds a little dangerous. Has anyone had any experience with it?

Nothing locks the steering, as for the shaking of the wheel, that is a feature called lane keeping assist. It monitors the lines on the road via camera on rear view mirror, and shakes the steering wheel to alert you that you are drifting out of your lane.

I have the non active blind spot assist. It beeps if you are changing lanes when the turn signal is activated and a car is in your blind spot. If you cross the line without activating the turn signal then the lane assist will give you the bumping in the steering wheel. It is a very nice option and I highly recommend it. It is great for easily distracted drivers and fools. I belong to both groups.

I wish all cars in India had the feature. Nobody keeps lane there, so you should use another feature as honk to push car in front of you in lane when you going to pass.

+1

Many times when driving "spiritedly" its gone off and would not have been good to have the car try to pull me back. I guess it comes with an off switch....but I like having the warning without being pulled back.

Where I see it as an advantage is on really long trips late at night when you're tired for added security.

Do you know if you can leave the warning on but turn the active part off in the 11's?
