Faded Burl Wood Trim on "new" E350
#77
We are happy with our new Burl Wood. I left the car with the Dealer for an entire day, so I can not say how long it takes to install. But, I can say they did a great job with installation.

That's great. In the two jobs that I have personally seen (from two different dealers), there was a bit a some residue left on the plastic pieces adjacent and directly above the dash on the passenger side. Little bit of plastic cleaner took it right off.

Oh well. Last week the MB dealer said my new wood trim would be in early this week. I just called them and was told there is a "national" back order on the 2010 E350 interior wood trim. I guess it must be a wide spread problem with mercedes wood trim fading.
I created a quick YouTube video of my issue. I'll have to update it to HD when I have time. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYUjm...tu.be]Mercedes E350 Wood trim Fading Issue.[/url]

The MB dealer just called to inform me that my new wood trim kit has arrived. That was quicker than expected. I wonder if it had anything to do with me forwarding my Youtube video to corporate? Regardless, I'm just happy to have it replaced under warranty.

I have been reading this thread for awhile. I had sometime off last week and did a visit to my dealer who confirmed my wood would be replaced, it would take two days and 12 weeks to get it. I got a call today and was told they had a few kits no one claimed and they can do it Tuesday and provide a loaner. Sweet. I never would have noticed the faded wood without reading this forum. Thanks guys

wood trim
do not get too excited - the replacement may be no better a match (worse? surely not) - even when from same tree!
my experience when wood was cracked during MB service and ordered (6 weeks) and replaced noticeably different - but could do nothing further
1 piece of centre console wood almost $3000! CL AMG
May want to ask that the original piece be kept until you can approve the replacement during your physical inspection

I was told they would replace all of the wood and it would take most of two days.

I was told it was the entire kit. It's being installed tomorrow. I'll report back when it's finished. Maybe I should make subtle marks on the pieces that don't look too faded. The rest of the wood is very obvious.

Good idea - it (the difference) drove me to distraction for a few weeks until I finally sort of "got over it" - not. Too expensive to have done entire car and no guarantee of match

Difference is night and day!
OMG! What a difference with the new wood trim. They just finished a couple hours ago. My trim must have been faded right from the start. This is what is should have looked like. They replaced every piece of trim in the car. My service adviser couldn't have been more helpful. When he called to tell me the car was done, he was almost more excited than I was. Looks like a brand new interior. SO happy I had it done.

Dealer cost? I meant to ask what would it have cost, but I was so thrilled with the outcome, I forgot. Maybe someone on here who's had it done can chime in. They even replaced the wood trim under the back seat door arm rests which looked very good. I made a small mark with a razor blade just to see if they would. I can't help it, I'm a bit cynical. Especially after I had my '04 E320 serviced after warranty, 49,000 mi. and they said my bushings needed to be replaced. I had it checked somewhere else and they told me they looked perfect.

Thanks for sharing that vid
While I do like the faded color, now that I see the real color I cant wait any longer
I was told they would replace every piece also, although Im still waiting for the parts to arrive
I just wish they would allow me to change it to the Black Ash Wood, but have to go based upon whats on the VIN

Wow. Mark's pictures show what I hope my before and after will be like. What an amazing difference. So disappointing that it is happening to everyone.
Just wondering how long it took for people to get the kit in after they mentioned the problem to the dealer? I have been waiting for over 3 months now and it seems like something went wrong. It shouldn't take that long. I want to call today but would like to have some data to back up my claim that they messed something up. Also when you made the claim did they give any documentation at the time or just after the work was done? I got nothing and no eta on the kit.
