I have done this a couple times. You probably have to adjust the metal sliding plates. The side holding arms may be bent out causing a non straight and smooth open /close so the 2 panels are not lining up.

Drsaab, can you tell me how you removed the center console / ashtray trims? I don't want to be breaking or damaging any plastic parts.
Dan, thanks for the docs, but they don't tell me how to remove the trims.

I recently bought a 2011 E350 and, as much as I knew about this situation, I really had no idea whether or not the wood trims in my car were fading.
In any event, when I took my car in for A1 Service, the SA privately told me those are fading and it's a good idea to order new ones since waiting time is about 1 year.
I guess I got lucky, she called me the next day to tell me they do have 1 in stock and my car will get first priority.
Anyway, this is my first MB and so far I think I have got some lucks with it.
I bought it fairly inexpensive in comparison to market value and I got a great deal with Erin on the extended warranty.
Concerning the extended warranty, for some reasons unbeknown to me, it came out to be about half of what my local MB dealer quoted.
My guess is the local dealer didn't bother to check the VIN number and just quoted straight out of the book.
The only glitch from the wook kit replacement is the steering wheel color does not match the rest and my SA told me it's not part of the kit.
Anyhow, so far so good with this car.

2011 E350 with the same wood fading problems
Took my 2011 to the dealer with obvious wood trim fading all over and they immediately agreed to replace all of the wood since it is still under warranty. They put the part on order around April 1st. Now, almost two month later, they still don't have the parts in and they don't even have an ETA on them. Ridiculous. Seems pretty crazy to me and certainly not what I would expect from MB. Dealer gets high marks, so far. MB gets a thumbs down.

The ETA I got from my dealer is 1 year but I got lucky since they found 1 in stock.
Since yours is already in the system, I'd just enjoy the car until the kit arrives. Life is too short to let little things bother you.

2011 E550
I just stopped by the dealer today and they confirmed my trim is faded and put in the order for new trim. They told me they have changed out quite a few trim sets and they estimated 6 months based on what they are seeing.
Timing is ok, it gives me something to look forward to.
