Question Pre-paid Maint

Hi Folks,

I'm about to take delivery on 2011 E550 Cabrio and talking to dealer about prepaid maintenance. Wondering if any of you are running into a similar predicament whereby dealer is saying prepaid cost $1089 for A/B/A service over 3 yrs 30k miles yet MBUSA has it advertised for $769. This begs the following questions which I hope the seasoned vets on this forum can answer.

1. Have any of you received similar information when inquiring about prepaid maint and if so what were you able to negotiate your price to.

2. How much does A / B service cost on E550? On my CLK500 I pay about $225 - $250 for A and $400 - $450 for B service and that's without discount emails I typically get from area dealers.

Realize this is the W212 forum but much more activity here than on C207 / A207 forum.

Thanks,

I have e550 sedan 4w. A was 200 to 250 and b was 600 to 650. The next a is same as the first and I suspect will be similar. The big differernce in service b as far as i can tell was a brake fluid change.

There are a couple of threads on this subject already, but the general consensus is that the prepaid maintenance is an over all good deal. There are factors to consider, which you have already hit on. One being that maintenance charges differ from dealership to dealership, so the exact savings will vary. Something else to consider is that many dealerships offer service coupons that can be redeemed for anything from a certain amount of money off, up to 50% savings on your total bill.

I'm just starting to get back into the market for a new MB myself and have been contemplating this same issue. I like the idea of my maintenance being paid for up front and not having to worry about money issues when the servicings come around, but my dealership is frequently sending me coupons. For the past two years I've paid half price for the servicings on both my MB's and easily saved more than the prepaid maintenance package would have saved me. This is obviously a plus, but the downside is that I'm never sure if I will be receiving a coupon, or if I will have one when the time comes for my vehicle to be serviced.

I guess you could say that the prepaid maintenance is more about convenience and peace of mind. You do save money up front, but just like anything these days, if you search around long enough you can save a few bucks here and there, but will it be worth the effort in the long run?

Chilledbenz - Agree with everything you say. I do however wonder why MBUSA posts $769 for E550 Cabrio and $805 for E550 Coupe yet dealer tells me price 3yr A/B/A maint is $1089 now $909 after I challenged them. While not an atty I believe not giving me the advertised price somehow violates truth in advertising laws we have in NYS. Thinking I should push them to give me the price posted on their website.

mg-E550 - Wondering why brake fluid would be changed after only two years of service? I realize brake fluid does attract and retain moisture but never in such a short time. Did your service department give you a reason for flushing brake fluid after only 2 yrs? On my CLK dealer didn't make a recommendation to flush brake fluid till my 4th year of ownership. Maybe it was because I only had about 15- 18k miles on my car at the time but more likely cause of the age.

This is recommended maintenance, not doing it won’t void your warranty.
