Shouldnt you post this in the C-Class forum?
This car is not in the same league as the E.

Oh wait the new Ford Focus is out...
Hmmm Ford Focus or Mercedes E? Tough choice.

Then what is the A4 line for?

How is the A6 not a competitor to the E when it has similar wheelbase, length, widths, and even curb weights?

w212 Sedan
wheelbase: 113.1 in (2873 mm)
Length: 191.7 in (4869 mm)
Width: 75.9 in (1928 mm)

C6 A6 Sedan
wheelbase: 111.9 in (2,843 mm)
Length:194.0 in (4,927 mm)
Width: 77.0 in (1,955 mm)

w204 C class
Wheelbase: 108.7 in (2,760 mm)
Length: 180.4 in (4,582 mm)
Width: 69.7 in (1,770 mm)

B8 A4 Sedan:
Wheelbase:110.6 in (2,808 mm)
Length: 185.2 in (4,703 mm)
Width: 71.9 in (1,826 mm)

What about price point? Have you forgotten that? Just because i didn't name them doesn't mean it doesn't apply.

So tell me how the A6 is more like a C class competitor than to the E class. And if so, why did they make an A4? That's marketing cannibalism. Right.

Personally I like the A6. I have never owned one but from what I read Audi is the up and coming brand in the premium market. If I were MB I would keep my eye on the rear view mirror because Audi is coming fast. It is inevitable that eventually they will have the superior car in this space due to the huge R&D budget from Volkswagen. They will have the economy of scale over most of their competitors.

A6 is very much designed to be a competitor with the E-Class, 5-Series, GS, etc. The "Luxury Large Car" (which is actually technically a Mid-Size car) segment.

Anyway, I like it, though I wouldn't buy it. I think it looks clean, simple, and nicely evolutionary. It balances out the segment a bit, with the E-Class taking the "revolutionary" and more extreme/dynamic/polarizing role, the F10 taking the "clean up the Bangle mess" role, and Audi just further-ly evolving their traditional designs.

I think the front end is way too crazy and angular for the rest of the car though. When looking at the front 3/4 view, the front makes the sides look kind of dull and "dated", while at the same time, I think the front could have been more "executive" and mature, as I think it'll grow old kind of fast now.

The interior is nice, although I don't like that "stretching out as you go higher" optical illusion, it makes me dizzy. I think it's a little too designed and avant-garde for its own good, kind of cold and flat. However, those are nit-picks, all in all, it looks pretty damn solid, and I'm sure a lot of people will think it's best in Class (interior in this Class comes down to pure preference).

All in all, I think it's nice.

A3= B Class/1 Series
A4= C Class/3 Series
A6= E Class/5 Series
A8= S Class/7 Series

If you have cross shopped cars and/or owned many cars, you'd know this.

The A6 is a very good car and the new A6 will be a very nice upgrade. VAG has much to choose from: VW, Audi, Porsche (the merger coming in 2011), Lamborghini, Bugatti, Bentley, Skoda. It's one of the world's largest mfgs. Nothing wrong with an Audi.

And if you know your auto history, you'd know that Auto Union was what Audi has now become. And Auto Union was once owned by Daimler-Benz when it took it over in 1959 (later to be acquired by VW.) Remember the famous Silver Arrow racing cars?

If someone replaced your E-class with this thing think about how pissed off you would be! If they replaced your car with a 5-series, you wouldn't be happy but you wouldn't be pissed. That car competes with Lexus ES, Acura TL etc. Not E's or 5's. etc. Moving from an E to that thing is a big downgrade. That's my point. It's not in the same "league"...
We might have to agree to disagree because it's a nice car but it's not anywhere close to competing with an E.

OMG you guys seen that Hyundai Genesis? I want it!

The RS4 was/is a worthy competitor to the M3. And if they still exported the RS6, I'd be in line to trade-in my E63 for one. Hopefully it will return to North America some day. The new RS5 should be a big seller here.

There's really nothing wrong with the Hyundai Genesis given the price and performance. Hyundai has come a long, long way. Plus I have a strong feeling a Genesis will be much more reliable than any current Mercedes....

clearly, the A6 isn't the match of the E Class. I mean, it came in first to the E's last

The current Audi lineup all do look IDENTICAL to each other though. Sedans I'm talking about. I mean, literally interchangeable, with little details different. Not a bad thing necessarily though.

I did not realize that so many people buy the badge and not the car as 220 points out. Personally I am looking forward to the new A6. The dealership where I bought my Porsche is also a Audi dealer and a great store to deal with. Don't get me wrong, I love my E class but I don't live wearing blinders. If they have a car that is superior at trade in time I would not hesitate to buy one.

Exactly, when i first saw it, i thought it's an A8 but very much like an A4. I think Audi are designing like BMW's, may be that's the new trend unfortunately. Although, i like it, it looks a lot better than 5er imho.

Audi and BMW have similar design routes. Audi's new A6 looks like a larger A4, BMW's new 5-series looks like a larger 3-series, only M-B have unique designs for their specific classes of sedans. The C-class looks like a C-class, the E-class looks like an E-class, and the S-class looks like an S-class. They are all different and can easily be distinguished for each other.

I confuse the W204 and W211 all the time, until I see the badging or a clearer view. The C is a baby E.
