Automatic Recirculating Air mode

Re: Climate Contro/AC system...

1.) Does the car automatically recirculate the air upon automatic detection of bad odours? The reason I ask is that there is a switch on my BMW to have 'automatic recirculation' on that you can turn off or manually activate.

The W212 does not appear to have an 'auto function' button, so I was wondering if this is already incorporated into the "AUTO mode" for climate control.

2.) Is there a way to get the car to blow out cold air from the front passenger facing vents while the HEAT is on? I ask this because BMW's have a manual plastic dial u can switch for the main vents to blow either hot or cold air regardless of what your cabin temperature is set to.

Could someone shed some light? Many thanks.

1) I'm not sure about a W212 but I would assume it has this automatic feature because the 221 does have it and the 212 is a more modern car (and still a high class model that would not have it dropped for price reasons). Difficult to say what kind of odour is detected, it monitors at least carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides.

2) I cannot see why you would want this, the car anyway adjusts the temperature for different nozzles in a way that people in the car observe the temperature and air flow being comfortable. Would you want to set it manually to something uncomfortable?

How do you engage that feature in the W221? Do you need to just have the A/C or heat, or fresh air set to Auto?

Which feature? The recirculating air? It's the Circle symbol that consists of 3 arc arrows. If you push it the air is forced to recirculate and no outside air is drawn into the cabin.

haha, I don't know, I just got really used to having a nice cooler air in my face while the cabin was still somehow warm. I guess this is what the "focus, medium, and diffuse" settings are for.. I suppose I will just keep it on diffuse to keep the hot air away from my face.

Actually, the one where it auto recirculates?

The fresh/cool air-while heating option was cost cut out of Benzes about 6 or so years ago

Angry NO

E 350 does not have auto recirculate for bad odors, etc. Have to push the button yourself.
I had an '07 Hyundai Azera that had auto re-circ and I miss it a lot. It was amazing at how many odors it could detect and go to recirc before I even noticed them. The recirc light would come on to tell me and I would look and see smoke from a fire, dead skunk, diesel truck, etc.
MB really needs to look at what Hyundai is doing with its cars as far as standard features and options.

Hyundai content is amazing, I too have a 2006 Azera Ltd and am considering a CPO E350 4Matic, but I'm surprised at the difference in content between the two. The only reason for my not moving up to the Genesis is the way Hyndai handles its luxo cars, no advertising and so they depreciate at an incredible rate. This CPO will be my 1st ever purchase of a pre-owned car, I hope I won't regret it
