How many members change or plan to change thier own oil?
My dealer says they do not drain the oil, but suck it out of the dip stick hole.
They claim to get more oil out vs. draining through the drain hole.
Appreciate any comments you might have.

I change my own oil. The dealership is correct in sucking it out the dipstick tube. You do get more out doing it this way. I bought a ShureFLO oil change system from Ebay. It works great. Another great product is called a MityVac.
If you do plan to go this route and change it yourself, one tip I can give you is that cut the end of the tubing diagnally so when you thread it in to the bottom of the oil pan, there is a buffer space.
Oil filter is on the top and a breeze to change. I recommend and use the Mahle oil filter found at autohausaz.com. Mahle are the choice on AMG cars so it is good enough for my car. You can use the factory Mann fleece filters as well. They are also great.
The manual says 8.5 quarts but I could only fill 8 quarts when the dipstick showed at the top full mark.

So the 212 has a dipstick? Was thinking the 211 didn't have a dipstick (couldn't find it) so wasn't sure about the 212. Obviously I don't service my cars.

was talking with the guy who did some mods, he has his own indy shop, learned and trained with MB and is on his own now.......
said he always drains the oil versus pumping it.........
didn't ask why, but I do wonder about the advantages/disadvantages as well......

I have tried draining and suctioning oil out of my E550. The volume of both has been identical. I think draining has some advantages over suction, as the oil can be drained when hot, which removes more particulate matter suspended in the oil.
If you use a suction system, they are made with plastic tubing, which collapses if oil if too hot. This makes it difficult to extract oil, as system is under a lot of suction and tube collapses to some extent just from suction. Topsider system I used advises only running motor for about 5 minutes before draining.
Nonetheless, it is faster and cleaner to do it with the suction technique, so I can see why dealer does it that way.
