foggy windows
Anyone else having this problem?
I live in Chicago and have found the windows to be very prone to getting fogged during the winter.
I always leave climate settings to Auto (A/C indicator on, no air recirculation) and have no extra source of moisture in my car. It's a problem even when alone, but more so with a full car- rear side windows are the worst , but even windshield and driver side too.
I'm finding I have to often use the max defrost setting or at least drive with defrost settings always on - not very comfortable and I've never had this problem on previous cars.
Others? Ideas?
Thx

hehe, my windows fog up just from whistling.....and heated conversation with my wife, LOL.....I guess the thing is so air tight, without any airflow it's prone to fogging?
just my thought.....

I have seen complaints about the windscreen getting misty at cold ambient temperatures, more often than on a W211. Perhaps the airflow to the windscreen is adjusted too low or too cold (at auto setting).

My windshield on the 2010 fogs up on the driver's side with snowy damp weather but not during dry cold. I guess it's the extra moisture in my case. The 2011 hasn't shown any of these signs yet but we have had very little snow to date. The North East USA has stolen all our Winter so far. Yesterday it was +9C in Ottawa. That is absolutely balmy weather for us. Who knows, with global warming, we may become a Winter destination for the snow birds.

I've only had my car since Oct 30th, so I don't have any long term feedback... How long have you had your car? Maybe this is something that goes away after a few weeks?

S212 2011 Wagon and Wife's 2014 C350 sedan.

I live in Minnesota and have the same problem. Yesterday, temp was 3 degrees, by my self and the driver side window frosted over. the front driver side windshield also frosted up. When I have two or more passengers, all the windows frost over. I have to have the defroster on full [no heat to the floor] to try to keep the windows clear.
My previous Volvo had no problem keeping all the windows clear in very low temps when the car had four passengers.
Has any member been able to fix this issue at the dealer?

The solution? Clean the interior of your windows. I have found that products like Windex do not work well, as the build-up gets moved around and not really removed. I used to use Porsche window cleaner, but it was expensive and hard to find. Now I use Invisible Glass. Cheap, readily available (I have no association with them). You will not believe the difference -- I go from foggy windows nearly every time in the car to not foggy at all for months.

The only way I found to avoid fog was to leave the mode to automatic, hence having A/C plus heat on (when it is cold outside). With heat on only then windows would fog up. I don't like those air tight cabins like I don't like air tight houses. Plus, how ridiculous it is to have A/C running with heat on top? It seems you always need some annoying fans and other stuff to be constantly running when windows are closed. Was not like that 10 or 20 years ago.![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
Anyway I suppose A/C dries the air while the heater heats it...

S212 2011 Wagon and Wife's 2014 C350 sedan.
Brad S55 (IN): "are you parking in a climate controlled garage and then pulling out when this happens?"
I do keep the vehicle in a garage. Current temp in garage is 32 degrees.
My wife's BMW is in there also and it does not fog up after leaving the garage.
ttoE550: a month ago I had the side windows and rear window tinted. So the glass is very clean. Again, my wife's BMW is also tinted and no Fog.
Appreciate your input and comments.

I have a 2013 E550 and this past Wednesday we had a snow storm, moderate by Buffalo standards, but a storm nonetheless. Car was outside drove home with three people and I thought I was going to have to stop as windows were almost completely fogged. Used max defrost, A/C always on, tried dash vents as well nothing really worked.
Same thing happened in my 2010 E550, not a lot of storms last couple of years but it still happened.
Probably a lot of moisture in the air as it was about 32 degrees but I never experienced this with any other vehicle I have owned.
Wife doesn't have the problem with her CLS550.

Similar to the above, notice the car fogging up more than others. Will try cleaning the glasses as a start.

Next time you drive in condition like this try the following:
Put the air blow to the windscreen and turn the A/C OFF. AND turn the temperature UP.
I don't understand car makers who think A/C is good for getting fog off of the windshield in winter. I have learned that the "old fashioned" heated air works the best.

I reiterate my post from almost a year ago: I NEVER have fog issues when my windows are cleaned using a cleaner designed to remove the film created by gases emitted by th interior materials. In fact, I can tell the spots I missed while cleaning because those spots have fog, usually around the bottom of the windshield or around the rear view mirror. Not all cleaners will do this. I know Invisible Glass does, and the usual grocery store stuff (Windex, etc.) does not. In fact, I very rarely use my defrost mode, and this is across several cars since I learned this. New cars can get the film in a very short time (2 weeks?) but it slows down as the car ages (my occasional car washings are sufficient for mine now).
