A quick question: prior to delivery of my S212, will Mercedes-Benz or the dealership update the Navi system, or is this something that I need to be certain of at handover?

Also, how many times (and when) per year is the Navi updated given that it takes a month or so until the car arrives in North America (so could I get a car that is current at Mercedes-Benz in Sindlefingen on the line, but happens to shipped at the time when an update is due?)

Dealer should check navigation database version during PDI (pre-delivery inspection), v.4 is current for your 212 - request version confirmation upon delivery.

I got my "something" updated last week, I think it was the Comand system. Now I have small stars in the sky when it's dark outside. Also Bluetooth audio is enabled and it is working great. I tried to activate Bluetooth audio in the engineering menu before with not so good functionality, so I disabled it again.

Maybe there are more features that I haven't discovered yet.

The reason they upgraded it was due to problems with the Bluetooth phone sound quality.

If you do not have a disc to load (i.e.: provided by dealer @ delivery), dealer will need to identify installed version.
