HOLD Feature awesomeness
One of you pointed me to the HOLD feature (tap brake twice) for putting the car in a semi-neutral state. I used it for the first time on the drive home from work and I just have to say that this is MOST AWESOME.
I thought I had seen cool on my Audi which allowed me to lower all the windows with the remote on hot days (yeah I know MB does this too but I had it first on the Audi), but the HOLD feature trumps that by far.
Just had to share the love.

I have a habit of putting my car in neutral at stoplights...I think it's a holdover from my manual shifting days. However the E350 has about a 1.5 second delay shifting from N to D (which I think is due to the system engaging with the axle for the RWD), something I haven't experienced on my last two cars which were AWD.
So the HOLD feature gives me my fix along with instant power.

You do not need to hit brake twice to put it on hold, just one quick one will do it.

I just tried it today as well. A good feature. One quick depression and release of the brake pedal does it. When engaged, it says "Hold" on the dash. Just hit the gas pedal to deactivate and go. Regards. Ned.

I use the HOLD function at almost every stop. It frees my foot from having to "time" the green light and allows a more restful drive thru town. And in San Francisco or anywhere with serious hills, it makes driving effortless.
Now, I can't live without it.

Are you serious? It works on all MB sedans, coupes and convertibles - that have "fob" IR key instead of a "regular" mechanical key - by pointing your remote at driver's side door handle (used to be both front doors, but not for a while now - cost savings you know) for the last 15-16 years. It all started with a 1996 W210 E class. Some of the staff I read on these boards never stops to amaze me. People try this and that, like SB, but do not know basic things their cars have built into them. Its MB's invention, just like airbags were.

It seems that you have too much time on your hands to go into every small detail of your car. And besides, that's what this forum is for - to ask questions - without someone chastising them if they do not know how a function works. Try to keep your tone courteous.

Basic? You compare this to an airbag??

I would second your sentiment. I did not realize that this feature existed. I would have thought that my salesman might have mentioned it when he gave me the car overview. I drove a 2000 e320 for 11 years so if it existed on that car as was indicated I missed out on a cool feature all that time. Don't I feel dumb!! Regards. Ned.

Yup, HOLD is amazing.
You can pay me back later, for telling you about it, and saving your tranny, and your limits of hassle, from putting it in "N" at stoplights.

You drove your car for 11 years and did not know you could open and close all your windows and sunroof from the outside of your car at a press of a button on your remote? This is unbelievable. When W210 cars came out for 1996, that's the first thing they would show you in the showroom. I suppose they (sales people) stopped showing it later on as this was featured in all the automotive press when this inovation came out.
