Can this be done? Audio question.

This may a weird request. Is there a way to listen to (whatever is being played) privately? i.e. via headphones? There are times when I am driving home with my family, late, and everyone is asleep. Would love to listen to my music - sure, to keep me awake - but I cannot because it would disturb everyone. And that makes a very boring ride home.

Maybe cars do not offer headphone jacks for drivers for the same reasons they do not let drivers watch DVDs while driving. Duh. And I understand that.

In some states, driving with earphones is illegal. Just FYI.

First off, if you really want this options, I'm sure it can be done by most audio installers. Probably not a good idea since it would block out your hearing of emergency vehicles and such, also in CA, its a law not to have any on while driving.

I've always heard this is the reason for the law. But I gotta tell you, when the weather is nice and the windows are down, I've got ZZ Top (or, lately, Paul Gilbert) at a level where I don't hear anything else. And I've never heard of a person not being allowed to drive because they are deaf or hard of hearing. Not quibbling with you -- just don't understand the difference.

Wearing headphones while driving is insanely dangerous (can't hear what's going on around you). If not for yourself, don't do it for the sake of your family in your car, and the others on the road.

With the new cars these days and there dampened interiors and the nice stereo's they have, you can't hear a flippin thing outside anyway. Surely you have a phone that plays
MP3's and can use a headphone jack or an Ipod.

Fair enough K-A, but the same argument could be made about listening to the music loud on the regular car audio.

It's still totally different. Headphones REALLY muffle out outside sounds, far more than any tomb-like car could. Not only that, but they're far more intimate, and can really zone your mind out of your surroundings far more than a comfortable and isolating car.

Just plug your headphones directly into your iPod and listen. It is illegal to drive with headphones in my state.

Just go to any audio installation shop and they should be able to install a jack for your earphones for under $100.00. Should be no problem with any decent shop.
