Rocks from the Sky?

So Im driving home today clear skies, no car in front of me or over me on overpasses, and bam out of no where a rock hits my windshield and puts a three centimeter crack in it. And to think I always keep my distance from trucks and pass them swiftly. WTF preventive measures fail!!! Sometimes you just cant win, and that includes Charlie Sheen.

Ouch, feel you pain. Bet that windshield won't be cheap to replace. I am guessing Safelight won't handle these windshields with the cameras and sensors, etc.

If Charlie had started this thread, the title would be "Mercedes from the sky?"

Yes considering i have 1000 miles on the car it really sucked. But i did take it to a safelight glass shop and they were able to repair the crack which was more like 4cm. All that is visible is a small chip at the impact zone. They did a great job. Im sure that glass if replaced is more than my 500.00 dollar deductible. Still not sure what the hell hit me out of nowhere. Maybe it was from an aircraft

You might want to check with your insurance company. Windshield repair/replace is sometimes handled differently than other car repairs to encourage people to fix their windshields. Some companies waive the deductible for repairs, and have separate deductibles for replacement.

Im with Farmers and they told me the replacement would be the full deductible. Maybe I should have checked with insuring the car with allstate. The rate for 100/300k across the board was pretty reasonable compared to Geico, Progressive, and others. Not sure if I checked with all state. Funny thing happened with the Geico quote at first was about 1200 for a year, then he ran the VIN and said the rate was higher, 1900 a year. I think Geico was trying to take me for a ride.

Wow, I would dump those guys. Every insurance company I have ever been with has always offered free windshield replacement.

All of the companies offer free repair, but if you have to replace the entire windshield they dont waive your deductible. Id like to know which insurance companies you have been with that offer free total replacement. Sign me up

That's what I remember too. I didn't pull out my policy, so I am not 100% sure. My insurance runs about $750 per year for a fully loaded E550 4matic, but with a $1000 deductible -- I paid cash, so I am not beholden to any finance company's terms. In any case, imposing the deductible on repairs is counter to what seems to be industry custom.

Thats a pretty good rate for a 550. Whats your coverage? I just cant carry a thousand deductible as i have been hit by uninsured motorist in Cali and it really sucks to eat the cost and get 0 reimbursement because they have no money, fake names, DL etc

I have the standard insurance, I guess. 100/300 sounds familiar. Funny thing is that my previous car was a 2004 Subaru WRX (not STi) and had a blue book value of $7500. My 550 was about 10X more expensive, but my insurance went up exactly $1 per year!

Was my Charlie Sheen joke not funny? Get it? Two Mercedes stolen from him and driven over cliffs? Aaaahh -- Mercedes from the sky? Sigh. I'm not funny.
