Platform for "E" class sedan
When I was doing my research, most articles made a distinction that the Coupe was based on the "C" class. To me, this would imply that the Sedan is based on a different platform. Same for "E" class convertible being based on "C" Class.
What is the difference between the "E" sedan and "C" class platforms?

The W211 chassis is totally different than the W212. The W212 is an enlarged version of the C class platform, all the way down to the strut based front suspension. The W211 used a control arm front suspension and was a totally different beast than the W212. The E coupe is on a C platform with E component Agility Control shocks. The articles you were reading were referring to the fact that the E coupe is dimensioanlly the same as the C. This is called platform sharing, and, well designed platforms can be stretched, widened, and tailord to specific vehicle segments. The bottom line is that underneat all E's is a C. The S class is totally different than the current E and is actually similar to the W211 in layout.

Yes...this has been discussed many times. The coupe is based on the C class chassis. There has always been disagreement on how much mechanical bits it shares with the sedans. For those of us that prefer coupes it makes absolutely no difference. I knew about the chassis when I bought the car. No one would ever mistake the E coupe for a C class. Nor will they mistake the new C class coupe for the E class coupe. The new C class coupe looks and is smaller than the E coupe. As far as interiors go the E coupes interior is befitting a sporty coupe. The fourteen way adjustable seats are great and I much prefer the console shifter. Because of it's lighter weight and smaller wheel base the coupe offers more nimble handling. In sports mode using the paddle shifters it is just plain fun. Different models for different tastes. I would not have bought a Benz if it were not for the introduction of the E coupe.
