Cool Video of the rigorous M-B Testing process on the W212
Here's a cool vid. It shows the W212 on a "rodeo machine" of sorts, which puts the chassis/frame/etc. to a supremely hard strength test. Then shows the car in its pre-production stage, being driven through some rough elements and temps, etc.

The W212 had one of the most rigorous, long and drawn out Testing periods, as it was a car that M-B NEEDED to launch "flawlessly", since the W211's launch was still fresh in peoples memories, and the bad taste-in mouth effect was still there. On a side note, back when the 211 was launched, apparently M-B were trying to instill that "the new way of Testing" was via computer simulations. Nice to see they went back to keeping it mostly the old fashioned way.
On another side note, regarding the "Disappointed in this Cars suspension over rough roads" Thread. If you notice, M-B almost ALWAYS tested this car with the standard-in-EU "Luxury" Suspension. Clearly, our Sport suspensions didn't get nearly the R&D and fine tuning.

Cool video; I'm a sucker for videos where they do torture tests on cars. If you have a chance check out the Ford EcoBoost six episode series on youtube if you are into this kind of thing. Am I the only one who would like to be in the E-Class getting shook around ? I imaging it would be like riding a mechanical bull. Maybe someone should open a bar for car lovers and instead of a mechanical bull offer rides in a suspension testing rig

That would be awesome!! LOL.
Yeah, I love seeing vids like this. The W212's testing phase was so long and grueling, it was an obvious statement by M-B, in that they were doing the groundwork to ensure this model will be solid. It instills confidence at the very least.

You do understand that development "mules" are constantly revised to test different parts, right?

I followed the W212's development and testing very closely (as someone who hated the car at the time ).
Of course, but out of EVERY pic I saw of a tested W212 (and I saw a LOT), I don't remember seeing any of a Sport model with a lowered suspension and 18" wheels.
Proof is in the pudding, as our Sport Suspensions are practically terrible (when you take in account how amazing it is on good roads) on rough surfaces, which would lead me to believe that M-B didn't test them on some of these harsh elements.
