Rear indicator lights .. possible to switch to amber?
Is it possible to switch the rear indicator light colour from red (North America) to the PROPER colour of amber / orange? European models are amber.
I cannot stand red indicator lights. They have also been shown to be less conspicuous.

Not sure, maybe you'd have to order a Euro unit?
Funny thing, my Cousin who I just saw in France, who is about to buy a W212, said that he envies our "nicer" red LED's, lol. I agree that Orange provides a better safety aspect.

I was pleased to see MB keep amber tail signal lights for the past several years when other manufacturers were switching to red. It is a shame that MB is following the crowd in NA. I too wish we had amber lights like Europe, Australia.

If I am corrrect they are LEDs, no? Are they a sealed unit though?? Has anyone attempted to switch them? I would love to switch them to amber lights if the cost is not prohibitive and it is not a difficult job that involves trim removal. Does anyone know how much it would cost?

Only way to get is Replace complete Taillight Housing & wiring connecter ( to prevent swapping ) with Non-US spec. units..
I got mine during my last trip..
Ordering is expensive due to euro/dollar exchange rate..
Shipping is a pain due to US customs..

Where did you get them from? Germany?
Also, do you remember how many Euros each cost?

I cant believe theres soooo many people complaining about the red and asking for the ugly *** AMBER, im sooo glad they decided to go with red. I dont get what safety reason you guys are talking about, the whats the difference if theres a bright *** RED led blinking or ORANGE, IF someone dosent see ur damn red ones, dont think their gna see the amber ones, it just means their as blind as a bat!... I wish they put the side mirrors red also instead of amber!

Yes, I got them on my last trip to Germany.. Don't recall price..
They say Amber / Orange is easier to see as a difference.. Red Brake & Red Turn Signal is hard to see the difference.. I believe their is a possible law going to make it standard for all manufacturer Amber/Orange Blinkers - for Safety..

i like the amber color and would rather have that
its just feels weird when all the other turn signals are amber but not the rear one
the other thing that annoys me is that the side markers dont blink

To bring back an older topic, does anyone have the part number(s) for the rear light cluster (2011 E) for the orange indicators (rather than the red indicator that is standard on North American models)? Does anyone know how to order from Germany?
Has anyone attempted to replace the lights themselves, and if so, how difficult is it? I would like to replace mine, as my car is mine and not leased, but I am afraid the Canadian dealer may refuse to change them due non-standard (for NA) designation.
Thanks

Are those separate cables, that plug into the existing electrical cables without any modification, or do I have to splice them to attach the 6-pin connectors?

This thread made me feel like I was taking crazy pills. The red turn signals are a safety issue? You need to put the crack pipe down and step away from the vehicle. I used to love the tail lamps of MBs in the late 70s and 80s. They were red, but the brake and signal lights were very intense and MBs were easily recognizable from a mile away because of the intense red signals and brakes. I think the new 212s are a throwback to those glory days. I love my read tail lamps.
