Can a damaged rim still accept a tire?
I ran my right front tire into a nasty bolt over the weekend, taking out the tire and also shearing off an approx. 1" section of the rim where it flares out to its edge.
The damage does not penetrate into the rim, it's as if one took a scissors and cut off part of the flare.
The mechanic didn't say anything about not being able to mount a new tire, but I'm curious if it accept one or if I'll be stuck replacing the rim too. They have the rim (awaiting a new tire) so unfortunately I can't provide a pic.
Any thoughts?

first off, that sux!
second, welcome to the forum
third, I can't say for sure if would affect anything else
besides a personal erk to have to see the evidence of what appeared to be scissors, like you described....
seems like it could potentially slice the tire or maybe something else....seems like a weakness in the system you know?
good luck, and don't sweat this too much

It's impossible to say without seeing the wheel. Chances are you're fine, unless the shop said something about it.
