E Class Quality
My Wife has a new E Class 2.2 Diesel since late June, on the first week it stopped dead while driving along. After the trip in the tow truck the service centre found that a clip on the gear selector had come and away and was damaged due to poor assembly.
Apparently the gear lever (shifter) was in Drive but the dash showed Reverse due to this loose clip, anyhow the confused system shut the engine down and disabled restart. Luckly it stoped on a local road.
We got the car back after 2 days and all was OK
Secondly we noticed the windshield wipers were parking on the black plastic wiper panel another visit to the service centre!
Not so good for a car with 600 miles on the clock
I wife likes the car still, personally I find the car drives well is very smooth and quite, but I find the peddel positions poor as there is no way to get your right foot comfortable when using cruse.
In fairness the interior is first class.
This car is one of the first Diesels with Start Stop and 7 speed autobox.
Which was the only reason we went for the E over the BMW 5 as it seemed to be approching the technology level of BMW
The botton line is Mercedes Build Quality does not seem to have improved over her C W204 which seem to go through rear lights clusters and wiring harnesses two in three years and 24000 miles.

Hmmm... I am in the market for an E as well. I recently test drove the Audi A6 (2012 Prestige with most options) and have second thoughts on the E

My 2010 E 350 bought back in June 2009, so far 15,000 miles and a change of oil only. No problems. But I had an Audi A6 2006, since new had multiple problems. The transmission was changed at 2 years of use and Audi granted a month payment in return to the problem.

My first ever MB was the E350 diesel about 7,000 miles ago and it has been perfect in every way. I get about 38mpg on the highway, it is totally reliable, and the most comfortable car I have ever owned.
I am a raving fan, not an MB employee.
