Why haven't more of you opted for the Pano Roof?

Canadian cars in 2010 had a standard pano roof. This was first experience and I loved it. Now it's optional in the premium package and I got it on the 2011 E. I doubt I will ever buy another car without it.
My wife, on the other hand, keeps the blind closed continuously on her car and would not pay a red nickle for the pano. Opinions are all over the place on this option.

I had the panoroma roof when it first came out on the C230K coupe. It rattled like crazy after a few years of ownership then switched out to a SLK350 and rarely ever used it as a convertible. So, when I purchased the E550, I didn't even bother looking into the panorama as an option as it would be of little use.

I do like the black roof look on lighter colored W212s

I like it but didnt order my car- took one the dealer could find that met my preferences. V8, radar cruise and dynamic seats all came ahead of pano in my book. In hindsight i probably shoulda ordered.

Will be awesome if they roll out magic sky control to all models!

I got my pano roof as a by-product of my negotiation with a dealer inventory car. I personally had no interest in any sunroof since I rarely use that option. Rather than having a car ordered to my needs (and lose some negotiating power), I got a great price on the inventory car. The dealer was itching to move their inventory and I sense that.

In the end, I got the pano roof and folder seats for nearly nothing. I have no complains for those options and agree with many of the comments in the thread. Though a pano roof isn't very noticeable on my black car, I do like the pano structure lines and overall sealth look.

I hate sunroofs. Too hot and I never have them open. I have the one on my CTS double tinted with limo tint to keep the sun out when it is closed.

Not sure I understand the numerous comments about a sunroof or pano being too hot in warmer states...

It comes with an opaque shade which blocks 100% of the sun's wrath.

Oh yea, I completely forgot that Mercedes skimped on the W212 shade. That is such a shame because the shade in my W211 is great. Shame on you MB!

The noise can be fixed at the dealer. Have a good relationship with your dealer/shop foreman and they can fix any noise with the roof. That was the only thing that I found annoying about the roof as I heard these creaking noises sometimes and it was driving me nuts. After the shop foreman at the dealer patiently rode with me while listening to and documenting the sounds everything was fixed. Especially on lighter colored cars the pano roof looks especially nice. I would not buy another car without it...

One thing I wish is that if it was an entire glass panel that can be blackened out electronically like the Maybach. As for safety, they can install a roof airbag that covers the entire roof to deploy during an accident so you don't accidentally hit the glass roof It would be an amazing experince to drive through a forest road with an mostly glass roof above you...

I think Ned's referring to some form of ambient noise from the outside.

I had the option of a Pano-roof car at the expense of ParkTronic, otherwise essentially the same.

It came down to practicality for me....

1) I almost never use my sunroof as it is...its become something of a standing joke.

2) The Pano roof would be great for kids in the back, but I can count on one hand the number of times my kids have been in my car - they are both still in car seats so we usually just take my wife's car rather than spend the 1000 hours its takes to switch the seats over ;-)

3) Selfishly, I couldn't see how the pano roof did much for me....I get basically the same roof in the regular design.

4) It was "nifty" or "cool" but not much utility. I figured Parktronic (something else I don't use much) at least had some more utility value.

I did think the all-black roof was a nice touch, but the car itself was black anyway.

I thought the same with my convertibles. I find I can't look up at the trees very long as I have to look at the road, but at least the passengers get the benefit.

If this is true it is news to me as the interior of my car with the pano roof seems very quite to me. Also if done properly, thick/strong glass can be quite a good sound insulator... I can;t really comment on this except to say that I am very sensitive to sound and I'm quite happy with the interior noise level of my car. Most of the sound seems to come from the side windows and I wish I had double pane side glass but have to get an S for that...

Agreed 100% but I also don't have anything to compare to. However I'm pretty darn sure there is no additional noise due to Pano.

I miss the Pano roof.

The dealer did not have any P2's with pano roof option in their inventory. I should have ordered my E350, but I couldn't wait much longer. Only time will tell I suppose. My black/black E350 sedan with the R08 and P2 options will keep me happy for long while. I just replaced the 18's with aftermarket 19's, to make it sportier.

2 years of ownership, no issues with the panoramic roof. On grey days it lets a lot of light in the car. It makes the interior seem larger and airy. The sunshade works well. Rarely open it. I would have one again.

I really like my panorama roof. I wasn't to sure about down here in the SE with the sun and heat. I would get this option again when it comes time to replace my E550. It looks great with the car in diamond white. I have no extra wind noise from it. Most of my guests like the open feeling when they are in the back seat and the shade is open. This and or a sun roof is the closest you can get to a 4 door convertible.

A friend of mine suggested me to tint the pano roof glass to cure heat . That's a plausible idea but don't know if it works as it is supposed to be

I too will never buy another sedan without the Pano roof. I am completely sold on it. It makes the car appear more spacious during the daytime as it lets more light inside the cabin and I love how the interior looks with it. Also it does wonders to a white or silver colored exterior and makes the car look very elegant, sleek and sporty as it makes it look like a single sheet of glass runs from the front windshield to the rear windshield.

Often times when I've had guests in the car, they've been impressed with the glass roof in the back and several have commented about them never been in a car with "two sunroofs" before

i'll definitely consider pano roof on my next purchase...if i'm getting another mercedes . it's strange that i had regular roof on my last bmw and i had the same interior color combo as what i have now but i've noticed the w212 is darker even w/the shade open. in fact, i left it open all the time unless i have to park outdoor. i don't know because of the glass is smaller on the w212 or the tint is darker but my previous bmw was definitely much brighter w/the shade open .

The openness it provides is invaluable in my opinion. Plus, not to mention the great overall look it provides to the exterior of the car. Finally, it's nice to have a larger opening when rolled back on a nice day.
Have had 2 E cars w/pano and 2 w/o. Just special ordered and took delivery of new W212 w/o pano. Reason why: I like to have the roof open at almost any speed. Pano glass goes up and over top so it is noisy over 50mph. Sunroof goes into the roof so is much more quiet. Also w/sunroof I can open roof and CLOSE the shade and still have great ventilation. On W212 more features have put overhead so glass roof has moved further to the rear. Finally when I drive I can only see the glass above me. I am not concerned with the rear seat area. I spent the $1100 on other features such as Lane Tracking etc.
