Insurance surprise

If you are to believe Mercedes marketing with the the E class you can look the other way, become distracted, fall asleep, and the car will safely stop in the middle of a Mercedes commercial

My policy showed that I got a discount for having a "new car." Not sure why, but may be that newer cars are considered safer than older ones and maybe less costly to repair.
Also, M-B is well known for its safety features and solid construction.
Back in the day, we had an '84 MB 190D and an '84 BMW 318i. The insurance on the BMW was much higher than on the 190D. I think it had to do with BMW's having higher insurance rates in general but maybe it was because we couldn't go fast enough in the little diesel to get into trouble
I've been with State Farm for most of my (lenthy) adult life and have always found them to be fair, ethical, and reasonably priced.

I wonder how much they track models. Is it possible that E550s, even though more expensive and powerful, are much less likely to be involved in accidents, and produce less injury in accidents, and thus the safety margin covers most of the normally expected increase in premium. (It just might be that E550s are purchased by an older, more conservative [behaviorally, not politically] cohort.)
Insurance companies are just loaded with data and are heavily engaged in analytics to help them with pricing.

haha, those were so funny...."I didn't know I was an idiot, but my car did"
I bring that up because the e-550 was exactly the same rate as the e-350.
