I have a 2010 E350 4Maticwith 16K miles. Last night after stopping for an errand it would not go into gear. I shut the car off and re started it 6 or 7 times over the course of 45 minutes and finally it went into gear and seems fine now. What was really strange is the car wouldn't go into drive or reverse and it would read the appropriate gear on the dash, but just rev the engine when you tried to move. What was even stranger is when in reverse the camera didn't come on like it always does.
Anybody ever have this happen or have any ideas?

 

Your car has an electronic shift...it's not really connected to the transmission. Most likely an electrical connection has become loose and it should be an easy fix by a dealer who knows where to look.

 

i know this was years ago but did you get to the bottom of the issue?

I have a 2011 E350 convertible
The car is running great, no warning lights on dash, no CEL
No codes
Yesterday, I went to start the car. It would not turn over, and the clock reset, and spun around to find the correct time.
I shut car off, took out key, put it back in and the car started up , ran great, drove it home.
Today, I started car, engine was running, no warning lights, THe clock again reset ( this is odd usually only happens when the battery has been disconnected )
I put the top down. put in reverse and it didn't move. The indicators on the shifter worked. I put into R and D and nothing no movement at all.
I put the top up, windows up. Shut the engine off.
I disconnected the battery
I'll see what it does in the morning.

Any advice on what to do next? Even if the car starts and drives tommorow I have to find out why this happened.
I have a Icarsoft MB3.0 scanner.
