Keyless Go
Stupid question:
I heard that the keyless go is some type of button that does over the typical key ignition switch. I purchased the e350 with the P01 package, is it possible to get the as an add on at a later date? Typcially I would say know but after i heard it was just a button that goes over the ignition switch, i thought maybe it was possible?????

Its actually a lot more than a button that goes into the ignition. There are various antennas located in the vehicle, as well as an emitter to enable keyless go to function. The door handles are equipped so you only have to grab and pull and the doors unlock, and touch them to lock the car back. I'm guessing it would be very costly to retrofit it, definitely more than it would be to add the P2.

if you end up getting the p2, you won't be sorry, the keyless business is awesome!

A retrofit is not economically feasible. A few guys priced out the similar system for BMW and the parts exceeded $4000.
The button the OP speaks of is merely a slightly different ignition switch and the button merely covers the key slot.
i never used to be a fan of Keyless go until I had Comfort Access (the BMW version) It doesn't affect driving dynamics at all and is really a convenience item. The big item in the P2 package is the xenon headlighting system but the keyless go is certainly a nice to have - especially for female drivers that bury their keys in a purse.

For a while, I mildly regretted not getting keyless go until I discovered my coworker kept getting called by office security that his car was in the parking lot still running! He was thinking he turned the car off, but it obviously wasn't. Also, he's locked his keys in the car, and one time, drove off and left the key home and couldn't start it back up because he didn't have the key. Not sure if that is a common experience or if it was because of the user...LOL

It is completely impossible to start any keyless go car unless the key is inside the car. having the key in the vicinity of the car may allow unlocking but you cannot start the car without having the key inside. What did he do, toss it out the window after he started the car?
You also cannot readily lock the key in the car. The proximity sensor prevents that and if your idiot friends leaves the car running because he forgets to push the button, then it is just as likely that he forgets to turn the key off.

Sadly, I agree! LOL

I think he said he started the car and then walked back in the house, put the key on the counter...

His is a Lexus. It left me quite dumbfound as well.

The only gripe I have about my 'go' system is that if I forget to put the key in the when is wash it constantly locks and unlocks itself, the spray off the hose will set it off... Otherwise, I love it

I too did not think KG was anything I'd ever have use for, but I got P2 for the Xenon.
Now, I would never be without KG again. I just didn't realize what a huge convenience it is to never have to fish for keys in your pocket (or the wife/g.f. in her bottomless purse) until I had it. Great idea!
And then there's the "Demo Value." You know, showing someone how it works, but forgetting to tell them it reads the key, telling them instead that the car "intelligently recognizes you - knows who you are!" OK, so I never grew up. Too late for that now.

+1, never expected to get the keyless go, now that I have it, cannot possibly go back to a non keyless car. My wife is quite upset that I have this option and she does not

Keyless go is looking like a training ground for Darwin Award candidates. It won't be long before someone runs themselves over or becomes trapped in their own kitchens because of this horrible piece of technology. Maybe it should be called "Clueless Go"?

although overpriced, i find no problems with keyless go on my mercedes....I like it. You can't lock yourself out with your keys in the car....and you can't lock your keys in the trunk and close the trunk. Yes, you can lock the car with the engine running, but I could (and did) do that in my infiniti M.
Why the negative vibes????

I got P2 for the Xenons too (and with my 2010, for the LED running lights, before they became standard), then Keyless Go, then Trunk Closer coming in last.
I really like the Keyless Go, even though I did enjoy whipping out the nice "Benz Key" before as well. However, now that I do have Keyless, when I see a car with the "old fashioned" key slot with a key in it, I kind of think that it's a regressive step for me. I can get used to either, but I prefer Keyless.

Same here. And the very best part of it -- noted by someone else in an earlier thread -- is that you can lock the car by touching your hip to it. Perfect when your hands are full!

A comment from a "Senior Member" like his is just awesome.....!!!!!
Keyless Go is just like the awesome Bi-Xenon lights - you don't know what you are missing before you actually have it.
