Is the ride on the sport over rough roads REALLY that bad!?!? I have a luxury and have always regretted not getting the sport (even though it is my wife's and she loves the luxury) but after reading more and more posts about how bad the sport is over rough roads I guess I am glad I got the luxury. It really is VERY smooth over the destroyed roads in Houston (we live in one of the worst areas and have hit some pretty rough holes and the car just glides over them, in fact I go over RR tracks at speed and don't even feel them) and can still cut in and out of traffic just fine for me. The only thing I wish was that there wasn't the chrome strip on the rear bumper. It makes the back end appear bigger than it is. And no, you can't just take it off because it is in a groove on the bumper. If it was just stuck on like the side I would have taken it off a long time ago.

I want a good price period. BTW- I think Ray Catena and Rallye may be the biggest....not sure or dont care.

My dealer in Houston, Star Motors, is by far the smallest MB dealer, BUT they buy all their cars with no financing so they have more room to discount. I got $8000 off MSRP on a 2011 in October of 2011....with no haggling.

I drove both a sport and a luxury back to back numerous times before i bought and i always liked the luxury ride better. but i ended up getting the sport anyway. Just my personal experience but if i did it again i would get the luxury.

1. We're in Nov 2011, not 2012
2. '12 has a much improved V6 vs. '11, plus few other minor twicks
3. at the time of trade-in/re-sale down the road, '12 car will be worth at least that difference more than '11 (technically its 1 yr old already), while one could be driving a more responsive engined car all that time.
Not looking for a fight, just pointing out the alternatives available.

Yes, you must have:

I don't know...I have both the S and the E, and the S is DEFINITELY worth the extra $50K. The front seats are much more supportive than the E, it comes standard with leather, it has massaging seats for both the driver and the passenger, the rear seats are much taller, there is more headroom, the legroom is insane, the ambient lighting is much brighter, the nav screen is better, it sits higher, there's more interior space, its much better looking than the E from both ends, etc...
E classes S Classes are some of the most popular cars where I live. On my street, we have seven S classes and 12 E's. I love the E, but the S is definitely nicer to look at on the road. THe only pain is....it's difficult to park!
If you can get out of an E and into an S, it's completely worth it. See if you can get Active Body Control - its the best feature. In fact, if I still had money left over after the lease of my E, I would get the new face lifted version as my 2008 is filled with creaks and the paint sucks. Oh well!

You have creaks and messed up paint on your S though? That's another thing I've heard about some W221's, creaks/noises and the like. I'd be pissed if I had that coming from an S!

LOL about too much for this age.....I felt the same way about the S class....
the 600 I was looking at the other day was just incredible.....but it was boat like to me....it did have everything though......
I could of had one; sure......but I wanted to stretch it out and get more than one you know? hehe

I agree about the "more than one"!
Yeah, I love the S, but "too much" is a good way to put it. The E feels big enough and exaggerated sometimes, so the S just felt like I was driving someone's Limo. Sooo much space behind you, it makes you want to stop driving, and crawl back there and sleep. Also, if you own an S now, where the hell will you go when you "grow up", and get richer?
That's why I love the E-Class so much (and I mean the E-Class as a whole, not just the W212, etc. model), a little more stripped down to feel more "youthful" and tight than an S-Class, but still luxurious and stately enough to feel that old world panache and richness.

Agreed. With this being the family vehicle at age 21, I'm loyally screwed. What in the world do I go for as the retirement present vehicle for myself? I'm pretty sure I won't be able to resist the S-class upgrade for more than a few years at the most. I'm a woman and don't have that good of self control to begin with. Lol. If I'm lucky, I might be able to hold off till my 30th birthday.

I know what you mean. There was a time in my life when getting a $60K car was like the biggest dream true. Now, at just under 30, I'm starting to brainwash myself into thinking if I might "need" "more.
Some self-grounding is necessary.

Its slightly jarring to think that I will probably never drive any other brand of vehicles for the rest of my life. After 3 benz's, I did stray to a Lexus, I blame my parents, and I lasted barely 4 months before I hopped into this one. Lol. Needless to say, I definitely learned my lesson.
However, in this small town I relocated to, it's amazing how small minded some people are, quickly judging someone by their young looks, age, and vehicles you drive.

Yep. I found people were friendlier to me, or didn't try and put up some sort of "act" around me, when they saw me in the humble Honda Civic Rental that I had last weekend, compared to when they see me in my E.

Check at Silver Star in Long Island City...that's who is doing mine. As for MB Manhattan - I'm pretty sure they are a factory store - I would agree Ray Catena is probably bigger. Most dealerships in Manhattan are factory stores, the only ones I know for sure are not - are the Bay Ridge Automotive affiliates (Lexus, Nissan, Infiniti, Acura and I think they may have a Toyota there now too)
