Need to find a new second-car, any thoughts?
Some great choices have been mentioned, if you really want to go with a cheap beater for work, you could get a Nissan Leaf for driving to work.

The leaf could do the job but I think a Kia or Hyundai would do the job with not much expense as well.

Toss in A/C, even a minor freeway delay, and the next thing you know you're suffering from "range anxiety." Where I live, if I had a job in one of the neighboring cities, I would either be very nervous or very hot & sweaty driving home.

On a side topic:
Going through Classifieds for W211's further proves the annoying point that when some chip-on-shoulder underclass can afford these cars, they *******ize them.
Every other ad for a pre '05 E320 (for example) or even E500 has Text like "SPECIAL EDITION VERSION", and by "Special Edition" they mean the highly touted "AMG Dual Exhaust", which is always a hideously disproportionate add-on, as only the real AMG Sport Package comes with dual exhaust on pre '07 W211's. Then, I see one that says "AMG SPORT PACKAGE"!, with description stating "AMG front and rear valance, dual exhaust, etc.", when in actuality, the car is a BASE E320 without even an Appearance Package.... BUT! You guessed it: Aftermarket, shoddily applied dual exhaust, and replica AMG Wheels (I guess that's what justifies the AMG Package).
The kicker was the one that actually, finally DID have the real "AMG Sport Package", it again an '05 E320 (I'm looking at the lower price points so far, hence the 320's popping up mostly)..... BUT, guess what happens when you look at the rear of the car? "E55 AMG" badged on the trunk.

The unfortunate and annoying case of aging Benz designs: They get desecrated by bad taste by those who show up unfashionably late to the game.
