You are not, integrated BT with command exist for at least 5 years. Puck required for people who didn't take P2 option.

2011 E-350
I have a 2011 e350 built on Aug. 3rd and took delivery on September 13th. It does have the P2 option. The technical guru "specialist" at the dealership paired my HTC EVO 4G phone with my "E" the day I took delivery. It has my entire phonebook in it and works like a champ. It has never failed me yet. Once I tried to make a phone call too soon after starting the car and got a verbal message, "Phonebook empty." I soon learned to give it a minute to load properly after each engine start. The entire system works as advertised for me.

I have an iphone 4 with IOS 5 paired with the comand system...same as the above poster with P2 and latest comand software. Most of the time, even if I wait, there is no phone book even though the address book is there. Very frustrating. I have to reset the iphone and sometimes bluetooth to get it to work correctly.

my phone paired w/the car really quick, probably less than 5 seconds. everything seems fine up until i try to download my phone book. the comand screen showed transferring completed or something like that but it's still empty. i have an old, don't laugh, lg gd900. i like the phone, well smaller than any smart phones nowadays but it could be the reason why i have to change new phone.

Yes, address book is mystery for me as well. MB manual states that your phone has to support PBAP profile to be able to load addressbook automatically. You should be able also load address book manually just copying cvf files over Bluetooth connection. I do not know if my previous phone has PBAP or just PBA, but I never could get my address book filled. After changing phone I thought thinks will go better and they went. First phone shoed popup for approving phone book access and I did. However it didn’t help, address book was still empty. So after reconnecting and marking always allow access I got my addressbook loaded. So it is something with security. If your phone didn’t popup the request, then look in BT setting and trust level. I have to admit that BMW BT addreesbook support is much better, I never had trouble with any phone, it was always filled correctly without any extra actions. Even Hyundai works better too, almost same as BMW, no question and addressbook just works.

yes, bmw is well better. it could take a bit longer to connect but you don't have to do all those transferring processes yourself. i just don't understand why do i need to transfer the phonebook over if the phone is already connected. if connected, the system supposes to work like my phone which all the contacts can easily be retrieved.

I can assume it is extra security precaution if you do not want your phone book can be seeing by your passengers. However this point is really weak.

Mercedes-Benz Media Interface Plus

My office manager is currently leasing a 2011 C300. He was able to connect with his Android but not load his contacts. After a year of screwing around, this week we installed a Mercedes Media Interface Plus interface add on. After clearing the phone from the system and re-syncing it, the contacts loaded right up. The kit retails for about $300.00

no, once your phone book has transferred, every single passenger can see it. they just made a simple thing complicated.

On Dec 04, post #27, this thread, I posted that my BT phone voice command feature worked as advertised. That changed a few days after I posted. I now have the same issues as discussed in this thread. However, it is intermittent. For example, on an errand trip of approx 45 minutes, I used the voice command feature to make three phone calls, and they all worked perfectly. On the return trip, I attempted to make two more phone calls, and both times it would give me the recording, "Sorry phone book empty, Cancelled"! Then twenty minutes later it worked like a champ again.

My conclusion, it has nothing to do with the address book loading. It seems more like, in my case, at least, the car does not always communicate with the phone. There is no explanation for it. I have been to the dealership numerous times for it. Everytime they check it, the phone book is there, loadedd just as it is suppose to be. Once they had it working in the parking lot of the dealership, but when I drove 300 yards down the street and attempted to use it, I got the recording again.

It isn't the phone. I have an HTC EVO 4G smartphone. Android based. It is identical to the dealership's IT guru's phone and they both load on the car beautifully, just as advertised. No one seems to have an answer, so I have given up. When I attempt to make a call and it works, great, if not, I just take out my cell phone and make the call the "ole fashioned way." I would say mine works perfectly aprrox 50% of the time.

I have the same problem with an iphone 4 and a samsung galaxy nexus so it's not operating system or phone dependent.

I believe that putting the car in reverse when you first start (to get out of a parking spot) interrupts the bluetooth data stream and often locks up your phone's bluetooth connection. The solution is to reset bluetooth on your phone by turning bluetooth off and then turning it back on at which point the car will find the phone and do the load of the phonebook without interruption.

This is why no one can recreate at the dealer as you sit there and start the car...you aren't going into reverse.

This is a programming bug by mercedes....and not a phone problem....

ok, i've heard a little tip which i haven't tried yet. a friend of mine told me this little tip solved his problem on his other car. transfer or load your contacts from your sim to the phone. then do the transfer w/the car later. i'll try it later today and hope it helps.

Funny, my HTC EVO 4G syncs perfectly every time and never looses connection. The car found the phone the first time the week I bought it and configured it and I have never had any issues.

From the threads I read, 99% of issues seem to be with Apple products.
