Question Where's all the brake dust??

I put 400 miles on the car and haven't yet seen the usual dusting up front. I used to rely on Porterfield r4s pads,,no dust at all,,have they changed from those dusty oem pads ?

I believe you're right about the new pads. I routinely use Sonax Full Effect and I hardly notice much iron from the rotors as well as dust. If they have changed the pads, I hope they aren't going to beat up the rotors.

11,000 miles, brake dust is minimal. Cleanest wheels with disc brakes I have ever had. No grooves in the rotors. The car is washed frequently at the dealer. I have only used wheel cleaner twice. Just took a 1400 mile trip. No brake dust.

Only MBs - the best or nothing
All brake dust was "left" with now departed W211 model.

Since you mentioned it, I also have noticed virtually not much brake dust on my 2012 E350, while my last 2009 C350 was a brake dust queen especially on the rear wheels.

My W211 had massive brake dust. My 2010 E350 with the standard Sport wheels had literally NO brake dust. You can lick the wheels after 1 month of no washing. My 2011 E350 with AMG wheels (I know the wheels are irrelevant to brake dust amounts) appears to have a little more brake dust then my 2010 did (maybe it's in my head, but it does seem to be a bit more), but still much less than my W211.

When I bought my '10 E350 I was afraid I would be a slave to cleaning the wheels like every other German sedan, particularly BMW. I was thrilled to see almost no dust. Some have told me it all depends on the direction of the airflow through the wheel at speed. If air is drawn in from outside the wheel then less dust. The otherway, dust accumulates. I guess the MB engineers know the story.

Either way waxing these wheels makes clean up as simple as a light spray from the garden hose.

Awesome!

Hmm... the brake pads must be different in Canada. My wheels are covered in dust after a couple of weeks of around town driving.

When clean wheels is wanted, simply change to EBC "Red Stuff" pads

Does anyone know what brand MBUSA uses for the new, brake-dust free pads or the part numbers? I want to keep these in my records just in case I need to swap out my brakes. I don't want to take the car to the dealer and have them put in some leftover old brake pads which create a lot of dust.

2012 E350.. no brake dust.. cleaned my car sunday for the 1st time since i got it(owned for 3 weeks about 800 miles) very happy with the little break dust. And the 5 star 18" wheels are very easy to clean.. i was able to fit my hand between the spokes and clean the inside of the barrel.

I have waited for a while to post my results, just to make sure...

The difference in my 2010 E350 and the 2012 E550 is remarkable. My 2010 front wheels were black after 100 miles. The 2010 has virtually none. This alone was worth the upgrade. I am so happy I dont have to kill myself keeping them clean. If this would have been a 2K upgrade I would have gladly have paid for it.

Exactly the same experience here with these new AMG wheels. Compared to my cleaning struggles with the wheels on my old CLK, I am amazed and delighted!

My 2010 e350 is also break dust free. I am amazed at how clean it stays.

Wait, but what happens when we get our brake pads replaced by the dealer? Do you think there will be more brake dust? Have any of you gotten your pads replaced yet and if so, can you please report on the results?

Lol my dealer will probably say, "Mhmmm yeah we'll use the same pads" and then use some old OEMs they have laying around with an old production date. When I'll complain, they'll probably just say, "Well, that's normal."

PLEASE ANYONE!!! If you know the part numbers on these brakes or how to differentiate them, please let us know!

Now that you mention this - the brake-dust free wheels are one of my favorite features.

However, I wonder if this has effected braking distances?
