garage door openers

I have been told that M-B is aware that buttons on mirrors for garage door openers stick, but will not replace the mirrors due to cost. Working on a fix. Anybody else heard of this?
I posted about this a while back, but had not been told M-B is aware of the problem at that time.
Mine sticks as it comes back out and signals the door a second time. This causes door to stop in mid-opening/closing.
Worried that even if I wait for door to fully open and then drive in, button will send another signal and door comes down on car.
BTW, never have a problem with my other cars or with cars I have owned before-both those with Homelink and using regular door opener.
Probably only use the buttons 3 or 4 times per week, so it is not normal wear.

Most garage doors have an infared sensor to prevent this from happening.

No problems with the buttons on my E350.

By law, garage door openers must have an 'anti-pinch' type of feature that requires reversing of the door once it encounters an obstacle - early enough not to squish somebody but too late to prevent paint damage.

In addition, since 1982, doors need to have a mechanism in place to prevent closing if something is in the way. The sensors are always placed a few inches off the ground and the only part of a car that would activate this safety device are the wheels, so a door could easily close on a car halway into the garage.

Yep, garages are great. You don't know how nice they are until you have one.
