Our new glk250 is getting near 30mpg in town and nearly 40mpg on the highway. much better then the nissan v6 pickup rated at 15mpg in the city. the fuel saving alone may make up the difference in price, plus the engine will last forever. i am glad i decided to get the 250 instead of the 350. the power is still there and plentiful. as far as additives i am looking at the different flavors of stanadyne, performance the year round and winter flavor from oct - mar.

The E250's have MOE tires which are similar to run-flats but less bulky and noisy from what I have been told. I have the same concerns as well and plan on buying the AMG 18" wheels or aftermarket wheels with non run-flats for the same reason. In Canada, I believe they are sold with non run-flats and a tire repair kit.
For me, with AAA and MB roadside assistance as well a tire sealant kit and TPMS monitors, I should avoid the need for a spare but I'll probably still be rolling the dice a bit if I have a catastrophic puncture in the middle of nowhere.
