Loving the BlueTEC!!!
Spent a good deal of time in my 2012 E350 BT and continue to be impressed. It is still under 5k miles so I expect things could get even better regarding the mileage. However, I always like to see something which starts with a 4 over such a long trip. The trip computer isn't perfect, but it's a good measuring stick.

Nice. I got a E350 BT recently. Havent driven much (about 250 miles in total). But I really like it. Regarding the mpg...I am in the low 30s at this point.

So far I've found that the trip computer figures are somewhat optomistic...by about 5-10%.But high 30's is still pretty damn good for a car as fine as ours.Don't know if this is your first diesel but if it is you're likely to find that your mileage gets better as you run up miles on the clock.

I am loving my bluetec also...haven't had a car that gets above 30mpg since my integra back in high school..lol...

I have had a few diesels before but I am always impressed. The good thing about the trip computer, is at least it is comparable to other MBs. Still, I've never seen a 40-something on an MB so it is fun to watch the MPG climb, especially on such a long trip.

Long time lurker first time poster, but just got a E350BTC this week and love the car. Only about 200 miles on it as well but the computer which I know is overstated is consistently showing mid 30s on trips with stop and go highway. I am very happy with this and only expect it to get better after break in and after the temperature rises here.
We have a ML320BTC 2009 my wife primarily drives which I also love, but something and the E just doesn't compare in terms of the driving satisfaction.
After being a Volvo guy for a number of years I am happy to be back in the community!

Good to hear all you guys input. I have 450 miles only on it with P1 package. I love L7 sound and how smooth the car runs. Found diesel station that sells for only 15 cents higher than premium gasoline and that is good for me.

there is an iphone/android application "gas buddy" that will help you find diesel stations and lets you sort by distance from you or price. Best of all it's free.

The best place to purchase diesel is on the highway or at truck stops, where the diesel is refreshed often, especially in the winter months. Price is usually cheaper as well.

thekurgan,
Thanks so much. Good information to share with fellow BlueTec owners. I actually like sound of BlueTec engine also. This is one well designed car that would last long time to come.
Enjoy your baby!

I do hope the diesels hold up, especially with the move to ultra low sulphur diesel. Lately I've been experimenting with the various additives but settled upon Schaeffer's Soyshield and Stanadyne's Lubricity Formula ... I bought several bottles of each and do notice a quieter engine when they are in the tank.

Anyone with industry experience know how it typically works?
Also thekurgan, no concerns with the additives and warranty issues?
Thanks in advance...

I totally agree, I try go to the fast moving diesel stations as much as possible. One thing about truck stops that I am not sure about however, does all the diesel get stored in one tank? Meanings where we fill up our SUVs and sedans is typically separate area from the big rigs due to the different pumps, however I am assuming it all flows from the same large tank?

Around here, diesel is diesel, it's all low sulphur #2. It is only blended in the winter with anti-gel agents. As for the additives, they are all ULSD certified and "adblue" safe. There are others, like ester-based 2 stroke oil, that was used long ago for added lubricity, but those can harm the exhaust aftertreatment systems.

Diesel around here is the same as far as I know, just wasn't sure how the stations are setup as far as potentially separate tanks where the smaller pumps potentially have a stale supply...

That may very well be ... I usually follow the TDI club and see more of those non-truck vehicles fueling up, plus, these stations are right off the highway so I can easily get back on during the morning commute. Last week's average was 36.7mpg, 80/20 mix of hwy/cty, it's just been amazing economy for a 4k+ lb vehicle.

I read that either W212 300 or W212 E400 Hybrid deliveres only 27 MPG so your Bluetec engine deliveres better figures than that of Hybrid W212's .

Keep sharing your experience. Believe it or not, I am here at least 2 times a day just to pick up more information from man like you. You are getting 30.4 miles AVG MPG. I am getting combined like you are also with mileage reading at 550 fresh miles on my BlueTec.
Mine is 2012 but enginewise it is identical as yours. I have to try a long highway drive just to find out more about the car. So far I love this car. Good thing I did not go for 2012 BMW 528i. This car is so much better all around

I expect the mileage to go up as the engine breaks in somewhat. The last month the mileage was lower as I was in the city visiting relatives for the holidays. My normal commute averages ~ 35mph in the morning, but on the way home, I see 39+ so the warmer temperature and less stop-and-go coming home helps. I generally reset the trip average between fillups, if that helps, so I can just input the amount of fuel and the price for the fuelly.com website.

ULSD has been out in Europe for more than a decade. The lubricity hype we heard about it in the US was just that, hype. DIesels will last probably longer than you will wish to own the car. They are built very strong to endure the extremely high compression ratios. Longevity should be the least of your concerns.

I use Power Service Diesel Kleen regularly (every 4th tank), so I am not against additives. Just rest assured that the ULSD has been thoroughly tested by the auto manufacturers. There are no lubricity issues with the modern engines and ULSD.
