Replace key battery

2011 e550

key battery replacement warning after 3 months, replaced by MB parts
key battery dead again, 3 months later
2nd key taken out and battery dead 2 months
both key batteries replaced at service, approx 1 yr after purchase
advisor insists batteries can just go dead
1 month later, again battery warning

really? my last volvo never had either battery replaced in 6 yrs, though not keyless go.

the functions of the key are being affected, slow response, etc.

i have read other posts re early warnings, but nothing like my experience

any advice, I keep my keys about 15 yards from my car.

i guess i need to speak with service manager

any help appreciated

wow...that's way too quick for remote batteries to die like that.

is there a chance the buttons on the remote are being inadvertantly depressed unknowingly? Or is the key within close proximity of the vehicle when parked overnight?

Not been an issue for me although i did replace my battery twice already in 2 years of owning the car which is still a lot. I have to say the distance range for this key is excellent (helpful with remote start)

I thought this was going to be a "how do you replace the battery". I recently learned to do it and took some pictures if anyone is interested.

i don't understand why mb doesn't do it the same as bmw. battery is charged every time you insert the key in the ignition. as for changing the battery, i think the instruction is in the manual.

seems like a no brainer to re-charge the battery when inserted into the ignition, but for MB, Keyless Go seems to be the way to go.

Did not check the manual. Seems pretty easy to change the battery.Saw this link in another thread (courtesy: forum member robalo).

That video is much better than the pics I was going to post. If you're looking to replace the battery, just watch that video.

Note that it's only for 2010 and newer. I know that that for 2008 the key opened differently even though from the outside the key looks the same.

i know but you have to pay for that option/package, though .

the other "cool" thing about their keys is each key has their own set of memories which i think there is a thread about it.

I am wondering if keeping the key in close prox to the car causes it to communicate with the vehicle excessively. I have a key that has only been used a dozen times in the last 12 months and the warning says the battery should be replaced. The key stays in a box about 25 feet from the car all the time. I have keyless go so maybe there is a whole RF identification thing going on runnin down the battery.

Same for me. Battery warning every 6 months. I never changed battery in my previous W211 (same key less go). Something wrong with the car electronics. I do not believe you can charge battery inserting key in ignition, since battery is not chargeable. Last time I had to drive with a key in ignition because can't start remotely.
Let us know if you find solution, really mad about this.

I have the same issue. My battery went after about 7-8 months. I do suspect that it is because it must be communicating with the car as long as you are in the car. I am using my second key, haven't gotten around to go to the dealership to replace the battery. I would assume that key battery life is related to how much you drive the car. I think I had around 9,000 miles on the car when I got the warning. Regards. Ned.

The exact thing happened to me (twice).
I park my car in the garage and leave my key in there a lot too, so i'm guessing it's constantly communicating with the car.

So now, I leave my key out and away. So far, no more issues..

I believer wireless remote will drain more power because it is communicating with the car whenever it is running. Result is that you have to change battery in less than 1 year in general.

To your relief ,this is not MB only fault ,some other cars with keyless go feature also drains their batteries . Well, as cool as it seems I will be preferring old school entry lol
