To 19s or not to 19s that is the question

I just think 19s look so much better.

My MB friends all say that my e350 sport will be horrendous on 19s.

Who here has done this, how have you felt and what did you put on.

Would love to see some pics and choices.

I recall I put 19s on a 5 series sport. Took the run flats off and it made the car AAAAMMMMAZZING.... no road noise just a little more sporty.

The 18s on the E350 are a tiny bit wallowy no????

19's are a nice size for an E350 Sport, IMO. I don't notice much difference at all between 18 & 19 for ride quality.

My E550 will be sitting (lowered) on 20's when the snow is gone. I can't wait....but 20's are definitely not for everyone.

welcome to the forum.....
I was a bit nervous about going from 18 to 19....
but you get used to it quick, and then it doesn't even
seem like an issue...
I still have 18's on my 550.....but having 19's on my amg is very nice....
and as far as looks?
I think they'd look fine, good luck!
throw some pix up tooone thing we all love are the pictures!

all of your friends have w212 ? if not, why did they tell you yours will not be good on 19s ? changing from 18s to 20s could be an issue but to 19s should ok as many of the members here have 19s. you can search a bit and you'll find tons of pics. have some kleenex ready, they'll make you drool big time .

I think it depends where you live, how the roads are and if ride comfort is at all important to you(as well as the potential for more bent rims and flats). Regards. Ned.

Good responses

Wow I am surprised.

I have a lot of people who say 19s will spoilt the ride and create road noise.

I feel that road noise is a run flats issue not so much a tyre size. Yes 20s are a no no for me.

I am only concerned about road noise, at the moment it wafts along lovely hardly any noise - I dont suddenly want a massive change.

My mate who has a C class says AMG designed the 18s on the car for a reason on the sport. And that if it was meant to have 19s it would come with 19s.

Saying that - 19s are an option ( they look like the spider spoke BMW wheels )

I am tempted.

@Busta are you saying you have had both and that you are happy with both?

Bumps are not an issue so much, as the car is v soft, I actually like that sporty gentle thud over small bumps it feels kinda more expensive you know? Like you have a sporty car.

My last car had 19s and run flats, it was a 330 convertible and I sold it after 6 months, the tyres knocked my teeth out, every bump was like BANG SHUD THUD CRACK DING BANG *****. Horrific on long journeys.

I dont drive much, but when I do I like to drive long motorway journeys and the road noise is a concern for me.

But you are right , the 18s kind of look just about acceptable, if not a little small on the E's large body.

What did you opt for 19 wise?

18s came w/sport pkg and it's a free option. don't put run flat and you should be ok even with 19s.

I like the 18's too, but 19's are the ideal size for this car. I would be more inclined to consider some myself, but the 18's are already noisy and harsh enough over rough roads, and the little bit that 19's WILL add (smaller tire, more wheel) add make it a no-go for me, at this time.

19s are an option on the E-Class Sedan (not just E63) in Europe - go for it

Part of the reason I didn't consider an AMG is 'cause the last thing I want emanating through my E-Class cabin is engine noise.

This sounds like something my grandpa would say. Mercedes-Benz put 18's on the car to sell to the masses. The C63 has an optional 19. The E63 has a 19. CLS63 has 19. Those cars all have stiffer suspension than your car.

@Busta are you saying you have had both and that you are happy with both?

Yes, i have had both. 19's look great on an E, but they don't look "big" like a 20 does. I like to have the awe factor...nothing looks better than 20's. 18's only spend time on my car in the winter. At minimum, i would upgrade to 19's. If i were going to stick to an 18, i don't see any reason to ditch the factory wheels.

My last car had 19s and run flats, it was a 330 convertible and I sold it after 6 months, the tyres knocked my teeth out, every bump was like BANG SHUD THUD CRACK DING BANG *****. Horrific on long journeys.

Your 330 on 19's would have had the profile of a 20" on your E...but with a much stiffer suspension. Then add Runflats to the equation? Yuck. I'm not surprised you didn't like it.
If you're concerned about road noise, make sure you buy a top level tire & you won't notice a difference in road noise, IMO.

haha, that's nothing! I even keep 100's in my cashmere robe when I'm outside working on keeping my cars clean
and I use alligator wipe cloths too; just toss 'em when I'm done
