It's a serious competitor. I think the GS has been the most attractive Lexus for a few years, although it is a bit small inside compared to their dressed up Camry.
I was turned off by the very low residual values that Lexus places on the car for leases...which, even if you don't lease, show that they expect the resale to be pretty poor. That's pretty much the same reason I'm not driving a Jaguar which is a beautiful car.

Looks like a BMW. It is a Lexus. They haven't done too much right in recent years relative to the other premium brands. They stopped trying 10 years ago and have lived on their reputation and older designs. No Lexus has ever been much fun to drive. I wish them the best. The more competition in our space, the better. Regards. Ned.

I actually think its pretty nice. Sporty exterrior and the interrior isn't bad. Just like most other brands it has a big nav display which I love. Our display is so small, I had a 7" pioneer back in 2002, and it was a touchscreen which made it so easy to use. Our electronics are so boring compared to most, imo. I would still never buy a Lexus though.

I know styling is subjective but, it's certainly not to my tastes. They took a StarWars front end and stuck it on a very plain, mundane sedan. The front end styling is just way overdone. I realize they are trying to convince people that there getting LFA technology but, in order to pull that off they need to at least carry over some of the LFA styling to the rear. Hit or Miss? Big Miss!!!

I couldn't believe those new things! Only a few years ago there was the Super 8.....and now you see what we get from them......not to mention prices! if you want anywhere near 550 hp you need to spend over 130k, and you still only get two doors.......lol

One thing about Lexus, if it's like the previous GS generation, there won't be a squeak/creak/rattle anywhere in the cabin. It was like being in a tomb. Mercedes and BMW need to take some lessons on interior plastics.

thekurgan: Interesting observation on the creaks and rattles of the prior GS. I drove three of them and they all had annoying rattles in the dash. I was disappointed in the lexus build quality, although they really excel at wood veneers. On GS forums, I noticed a lot of complaints about squeaks and rattles. ES350's all seem to squeak and rattle too. Hopefully Lexus got the new ones right.

the gs350 looks like a very typical toyota especially the back. the gs f sport's front looks the same as a bulldog. the interior is nice but not wow. i didn't read all the specs but pretty sure their technologies must be good as most of the japanese car makers. not to offend any lexus owners and i know lexus/toyota makes reliable cars in most cases but lexus = overpriced toyota.

Definitely worth looking into when searching for a new car. In terms of performance, the GS F-Sport outdid a 535i AND E350 Sport in handling, acceleration and braking, tested in Motortrend's March issue (page 24-25). So it's not just paper stats, and i doubt there is THAT much bias in the tests. I'm downloading the .PDF so I can upload it here.
But the decision to exclude a V8 option will turn away potential customers. The hybrid engine won't be enough.
Here we go:
I guess the only thing one could complain are the tires, RE050A is max performance and the Contis are grand touring, but throwing better tires wouldn't make 1/4 mile and 0-60 acceleration THAT much faster.

wait a minute, that's a special advertising section (see bottom of left page), not a real test, right? i haven't received my issue yet so i don't know.

Damn, even that car comes stock with 19" wheels. Whats the deal MB? I'm sorry guys, I think its a nice car. Like I said before, the fact that it doesn't offer a 8, and the fact that its a Lexus, I would never even think about purchasing. But it is nice....

They claim it's special advertising, but at the same time they said that tests were run by Motortrend. So I'm not too sure either.

The new Car and Driver magazine did a test with the GS350 vs AUDI A6, They claim 5.7 to 60 and 14.1 1/4 mile for the GS. So out of the GS, 535, and A6, the MB 350 isn't even close in performance. I guess safety is the only place MB will be able to compete in that market.

Yup. I had the same realization. Side by side pictures/viewings are always the best truth.
I'm driving an '08 Lexus ES around right now, and it's an absolute POS. I'm talking, absolute POS. Horrible driving feel, almost unsafe feeling, not even as quiet as you'd expect, not so refined, uncomfortable seats, makes you feel sick, wallow-y steering and suspension, not hot styling, bland interior, etc. etc. Lexus has apparently made strides to fix stuff like this with the new GS (I realize the GS is a place above the ES), but the styling aspect is still there, and I gotta drive it to see just how "non Lexus" it feels.
