Would assume no issue, my iPod stays in there, and it had a hard drive too. There is AC pushed in that area as well

 

Hi, Thanks for information. I just connected 500GB external drive formatted FAT32 and I have 470GB Song in it,but it only read less then half of my file.Is there any limitation of number of folder and sub folders or Number of Song.Thanks

It barely stick out from the USB port & doesn't snag other items in the glove box.

I'm going to try a 1tb & see I got a Toshiba 1tb new for $25 on clearance so hell why not
cuz I to have a big collection of music bout 51,000 songs

 

Does it take long for the songs to load up and start playing? Can I control it by the wheel?

 

. I have1000GB connected to my 2010 E350 ,trick is I made 3 partition. So I can have all storage space utilized.

It will be about 60 second after you start car. Then all partition accessible and each partition cab be accessed.

I have an old 8gb iphone 3 in the glove box for music storage. I know it's not a lot of songs with only 8gb but even with that I find it takes a few moments to load song titles when searching. The bonus is the iphone is a backup cell phone for emergency dialing.

The cable is like 8 bucks off of eBay. You can install it yourself in about 5 seconds. If you are close to me I will install it for 100.

Hi thanks for this thread. I am in somewhat of a predicament similar to yours except...I have a bigger library of music. As of today, I have just about 500gb worth. Yes, that's FIVE HUNDRED gb and still collecting. So, after reading this thread last month, I thought...here's a solution to my problem. I too have had the 160gb iPod but I hate that I always have to be selective in updating it when I add albums to my itunes. I love listening to all my music when I can. So, I picked up a 1TB Adata 650 3.0. Because its backwards compatible with USB 2.0, I thought it would work. I formatted it to FAT32 successfully and added 900mb worth of (MP3s) music. It shows up on my PC no issues and can play the music. Now, I go to my 2014 E300 and plug it in the middle consul USB port, no luck. I also used the "official" Mercedes USB cord which came with the car, still no luck. 'USB device unreadable' is the message. Am at a loss! Any suggestions? Am almost tempted to settle for 2 Iomega 500GB hard drives but as I said, my music collections library is HYUUUUUUUUG and growing.

 

$8 on ebay, then you plug it inside the glove box in 5 seconds and you wanna charge $100? what stand up guy!

(Funny thing, when I downloaded this from the MB site, it gave me the 2015 version: Order no. 6515 7871 13 Part no. 172 584 58 00 Edition B-2015.) Emphasis is mine.

The first 100 MP3 tracks are loaded. The first MP3 track is then played. Further tracks are loaded in the background; this is indicated by an hourglass symbol.

You can select this function for USB mass storage devices when the storage device is partitioned. Up to 5 partitions (primary or logical, FAT, FAT32 and NTFS) are supported.

So what I've gathered from all this is:
- use FAT32 (widely readable and writable from many OSes and platforms)
- use only a single music format (for loading speed)
- don't use a wide (1,000's of files in a single folder--hard to browse) or a deep (more than 8, not supported) folder structure
- limited to 15,000 songs (on your own USB or SDcard) or 30,000 songs (on an MP3 player)

What I have not been able to find is the size limit for an SDcard. The manual says this:
The readable storage capacity depends on the memory card used. You can obtain further information at any authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.

but I've asked three dealers near me, and none could answer. I'm awaiting shipment of a 32 GB SDcard, which seems a safe maximum size (based on other devices, phones, etc. that support 32 GB but not 64 GB).
