Question 2012 E option ? P02 vs S02??

Hi,
can anyone explain option variation on 2012 E350 Wagon:
P02 is Premium 2 Package with MSRP of $5950
S02 is Premium 2 Launch Package with MSRP of $5550.

Do they both have exactly the same equipment?

Is the S02 from an earlier build date when the Prem 2 was introduced/ at a special price??? What date did that end??
Would the S02 invoice price then be $5161???

thanks for any answers on this.
Bob

The S02 has a single disc player while the P2 includes a 6 disk changer. Other than that, the equipment is the same. Not sure about pricing.

It is crazy. I would certainly skip disk player. I used it only once just check if it works and can play my favorite DVD. iPod and Pandora, I do not need even Satellite radio which is crappy quality anyway

I found S02 on a car in stock. I'm waiting to hear when the vehicle arrived at the dealer.
I don't see it on the MBUSA build page but I also don't see Designo interiors and a few other things on the build page.
So, not sure if it is currently available.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. A single disc player is fine with me.

What are these options? Is this a new thing for 2012 MY's? So I take it they indefinitely cost cut the 6-Disk changers out, which were available on the earlier models.

I'm guessing it's the other way around--that this was an early build option and now they have the P02 with 6 disc changer.
I don't see S02 with single changer as a current option on the MBUSA site.

I'm waiting to hear when this E was built---it may have been in inventory for quite some time.

I'll post what I find out

S02 was a temporary package due to supply issues with the DVD changer. Now that supply is restored, that package is dead.

Without some kind of a disc player you can't load songs onto the hard drive.....with MB,at least. My BMW allowed you to load MP3's that you created (or bought) directly onto the hard drive.A 5 minute task vs a 10 day task.

The only reasons why the one disk cd player is the only one available for the past little while was because of the Tsunami in Japan. The 6 CD changer players were made in Japan and they had to stop production because of the Tsunami. That's why MB changed it to the one disk. Hence the $400 decrease. At least this is what my dealer told me.

I don't find the CD player useful at all when we can use much newer tech nowadays such as iPod integration/aux/ and bluetooth audio.

Both of my 2012 cars are S02. Build date on the E350 Sedan is 10/2011 and the E550 Cab is 11/2011. Don't miss the other 5 spots for disks, and glad to save the money. It would be nice to have both options available but S02 is not, I hear. The only time I ever place a disk in is to record it, and that takes a long time anyway. Better options on board.
