blue smoke

Have 2010 E550. Fired up the car after sitting for about 7-8 days and got a nice puff of blue smoke out of the tailpipes. Only lasted a second then no more. Also didnt get any this morning after it sat for 18 hours.

Anything to worry about? Car has 40k on it.

From what I've been told, any oil leak is abnormal. Blue smoke from the tailpipe indicates an oil leak. If it happened once, I might call it a fluke. If it happens again, I'd consider a professional opinion.

Before you left it for a week, had you fired it up & only left it running for 10-15 seconds?

If you didn't let the cats warm up, it's common to blow a little smoke...moreso on AMG's.

This happens a lot when we move cars around the showroom.

Very possible that I only only had it running for a short period beforehand. I think I did move it so I could take another car out prior to leaving it sit for a week. Thanks for this suggestion.

Another culptir might be valve stem seals . It happens when the car is hot and goes off right after engine start . However, your engine mileage suggests to me that your car is too new for this crap

my e350 just did this today. i pulled it out of garage yesterday after sitting for week, then pulled it right back in. 10 sec starts. started it today, puff, blue smoke i saw in side mirrors. wow! scared me. makes sense with the cats not burning off the stuf that they collected in those quick start ups and immediate shut downs.

I don't believe cats will eliminate oil, even if they were warmed. Sounds like a typical cold start before the pistons expand enough for the oil control rings to take effect and some oil has seeped into the cylinders, past the rings, so next time it is started, puff.

I was told by my service adviser that the 5.5 liter motor can some times get a sticky valve. It is rare, but it is known to happen. A car should not blow out blue smoke. That means oil is getting into the cylinder some how.
