Volume level?
Anyone else experiencing this issue....
Before I shut the car down...I know my volume level is low.
When I use the car again...and start up the ignition....the music level is automatically high (not from low to high)...it irritates me...as well as my wifey and daughter.
Is there a way to disable this feature?

I have never noticed this in my car. I will check it out. If you are correct, it is hard to imagine that anyone would subject their wife and children to such hardships. Have you no decency man? lol

Doesn't happen to me.
Maybe someone is sneaking your car out at night?
Also, I sometimes like my music loud, but I turn it down before turning off the car. Because I have been listening to loud music, the lower level I put it at seems very low. The next day, however, it will sound loud even at the same level because my ears have adjusted. Yes, I am sure the car is not adjusting the volume - I've listened to loud music in the car for, yikes!, over 30 years and it's always the same.

May be resetting the system may solve the problem . It's the 1st ever time I have heard of such a thing . I think a hard reset or rebooting should work

The car DOES reset the volume to an annoyingly initially loud level when you restart it.
It is by far the stupidest and most anti-luxury-calming thing about this car. It truly partially ruins what should be an elegant experience with it.
My business revolves around music, around very loud music, so my ears are very sensitive to volume appropriation, and this car has anything but it at startup. Jarring to say the least.

There must be an option someplace in COMAND then, because I assure you mine does not reset. At all. I have, for instance, turned the volume so low that no one can hear it, and it has not reset on restart. I have unchecked all of the auto level options, such as the option to reduce volume when NAVI speaks (hate it), so maybe that's why mine does not reset.

Hey, it just dawned on me that I posted about how to enter engineering menu I believe you can adjust these settings according to your preferences
I had downloaded user manual for W212 as US version but I have not seen anything like this regarding factory settings .
Unlike that version I have turkish version of how to return to factory settings. It's not English but at least can give you an idea thanks to symbols
Stay tuned, I am off to find the thread I am talking about , I refer to Engineering Menu
Let's hope I do my job properly
Hey, good news . I have just found the thread
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ring-mode.html
Hopefully works for you PHML and other guys
In addition that , I have just used an online translation program so that you can easily get a grip of these settings . Sorry, I didn't have too much time to translate all the things word by word in the 1st image but at least you should be able to see basic principles thanks to 2nd image

Hmm, I would love to know that there is a setting to turn this "feature" off. If anyone knows exactly how to do it, please share. I guess I'll try playing with the I/C and Command settings to see if I can find it.

i don't think i have this issue but since we have this brought up, one thing i don't like is the volume doesn't adjust automatically when the car runs faster (louder) or slower (softer). bmw has this feature.

My car maintains the last set volume. I tried this out today. And I did not play around with any settings either. It has behaved this way since I took delivery.

NTG1 (MY03-08) dealer could adjust various settings (i.e.: DDVC - Digital Dynamic Volume Control helps preserve sound balance/volume under all driving conditions) with SDS. Not certain about NTG2.5 (09), NTG4 (10-11), or NTG4.5 (11-12) - discuss this with the shop foreman.

Point of clarification....
I never turn OFF my radio....I just hit the push button to turn off the engine...and when I open the door...the radio goes OFF automatically.
When I use the E again, I push the start ignition button...and the radio turns ON...the volume level is much higher than the previous setting.
The radio is never turned OFF manually.

I checked around the normal user and engineering menus and nothing seems to appear to be a setting for a "default audio" setting.

Not sure, but car probably has speed sensing volume control (or something to that effect). This technology has been around for about 30-40 years in USA and is so old, no longer mentioned by a lot of brands.
Volume automatically increases as speed increases to compensate for noise. Most cars today are so well insulated that not needed as much as was in the past.
You don't notice it so much while driving - only when you get back in car. That has been most people's experience.

My radio doesn't seem to start at an unusually loud volume. I'll check to see if the volume setting changes from last setting. I'm still annoyed that there is no volume setting level indicator!! No car that I've had for the last 30 years didn't have this feature including the radio on my 2000 e320. Regards. Ned.

Just for information, if you want to turn off your radio...use the mute button on the steering wheel. The setting is remembered the next time you start the car as well. In effect that is your radio on/off button.

Doesn't work with BT audio streaming. It restarts at previous volume each time you start the car, even if muted before shutdown.

Note, no need to turn the car off, just power off the radio then back on.
Cheers

Automatic volume control
Caution! Most cars since the 1960's have had automatic volume control. As the speed goes up, the audio volume automatically goes up to counteract increased wind, engine and road noise. Faster you go, the higher it goes. This is one reason why it seems so much higher when you get back in the car. Noticed this many years ago. This may be what you are noticing.

I remove the button , and insert the key .Turn the key to II and let Comand switch on . As soon as I remove the key the screen goes out black in other words radio n turns off with the key removed w/o having to open the driver's door
