I think this is carried at Napa auto parts stores, along with the BG 44k for gasoline engines. Maybe not all of the Napa parts stores carry it, but I've seen it. I think it's one of those use every 7k miles or so, not every tank. I'll search more on it though, thanks for the info.

I've heard of the gasoline additive, it is supposed to work quite well. They have some diesel additives listed there I've never heard of as well. I'm not sure if these are the type of additives that go in every tank, but for routine use as they note, shouldn't hurt. I would check with MB on the diesel additive, just to be safe. A lot of these additives are designed for huge engines, like in hauling vehicles, RVs, tractors, etc. I just chose stanadyne as it's used for passenger vehicles as well and the mechanics seem to think it's not overpriced. Idle noise is definitely improved, especially in the morning.

thekurgan, do you use the Lubricity formula or Performance? Originally you mentioned Lubricity but then posted a link to Performance on Amazon. Just want to make sure that I order the right one. Thank you.

I use the performance when the lubricity isn't available as it also contains lubricity additive. The lubricity version doesn't have any cetane enhancer and doesn't purport as many cleaning capabilities. Either one should be fine. The lubricity formula doesn't always have Amazon prime

Here's the lubricity link:

Growing up in Ohio we had one of those Rabbit diesels and as a college student I remember wishing it would die already so I could get a different car but it went through every family member, odometer turned over and still got 45mpg. Yes, on nights when it reached -degrees we had to put a mechanics cage light on the head to keep it from freezing so it'd start in the morning. But it's also why I bought the GL CDI. Hope it lasts as long!

hve used Chevron's Techron fuel injector cleaner for years in all my gasoline vehicles. Even checked with MBUSA and customer service rep. checked with engineering and they recommend it. MB dealer used to add it as part of 10K service, but not sure anymore.
I add it about every 5,000 miles.

First car W124 SOHC 6, next one W124 DOHC 6, other 5 DOHC V6.
Not one drop of additive ever. Initially warranty would have been voided but the DOHC 6 went 300000 km in my care and no engine issues.
Just not worth it in my view if you do the oil and filter changes as required in the service manuals.

Before I bought my E Wagon I had a VW Passat Diesel and the best, least known diesel additive out there is one by the name of "TK-7" Fuel Additive by Newsouth Diesel. They made a video showing how other additives burned and the residue they left behind.

This stuff burned completely off without leaving any gunk behind. I used to use Diesel Kleen Diesel Additive and didn't notice much of a difference, but this stuff is certainly better. Not saying that it's going to add a gazzillion HP by any means, but reduces wear on the engine and is excellent for cold starts. Do some research and see for yourself. According to their website it was tested and is now the official diesel fuel additive of the Israeli Military. It's also a better deal in my opinion than the other off-the-shelf additives.
