To AMG or not? That is the question!

Guys,

I would like to hear your honest feedback on the 18 inch AMG wheels that WAY TOO MANY w212s come with. By Bluetec has 17inch regular wheels installed and I have been contemplating upgrading to 18 inch AMG ones. However, driving around San Diego I see every other W212 with the same AMG wheels and I now starting to have doubts whether going the AMG route actually makes sense. If you were upgrading your 17 inch wheels, would you go for 18 inch OEM AGMs? Or would you recommend doing something more custom -- i.e. 18 or 19 inch nice aftermarket ones? As far as the cost -- both will be in the same price range (most likely). Oh, and one more question -- what do you think of AMG replicas? Should I not consider those at all?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

If you are going to spend the money for new wheels... Y buy something that everyone else has...?

Go aftermarket. There are a lot of nice wheels out there that look better than the OEM ones.

You can check in Designo Wheels, this is what I did

Well, make sure, if you go for aftermarket rims , your tire pressure sensors fit in the aftermarket wheels othwerwise you will be getting tpms warning thru your dash

I agree with EmE247. And I've also found that you will have trouble finding the correct offsets if you were to go with an AMG rep. So do your research on the reps before you purchase.

I'd personally go with OEM AMG wheels (of some sort). To me, the commonality doesn't outweigh that I think they're the best formatted, most timeless and "fit" looking with the cars design.

It doesn't make sense. Why pay money to customize your car with a factory look like everyone elses? Pay money to personlize your ride and more than likely you'll have a better more customized look. It won't be just the same ole car you see all over San Diego. Give all us other 212 owners something different to look at.

Have 2012 E350. Removed oem wheels and replaced them w/18" MANDRUS "Mannheim" 5 spoke wheels which have a machined lip. These wheels are made for MB only so have no adapters of any kind.Even the "star" hub fits.

Wheel set installed was approx $1000. My MB dealer says they are the best looking wheels they have seen. Go to Mandrus.com. You can by these wheels from Discount Tire. Several styles are available,

Just traded my 2011 for a new 2012. Put my oem wheels on the trade-in and moved the Mandrus wheels to the 2012. Always keep your oem wheels to be used at the time you trade. MB cannot Certify a car without them and it will cost you $.

Mandrus wheels do look good on a 212...especially for the price.

You shouldn't have any trouble finding the correct offsets on a set of replicas. Why would anyone produce replica Benz wheels that didn't work on a Benz? Doesn't make sense.
