Seriously though I doubt I can do much better than 5 seconds flat in my 550. I think anything much better is AMG territory.

Yeah I felt horrible for him...he is the type of guy where that sort of things always happens to him, absolutely wrong place wrong time. I believe he actually got home at 3:30am, but then got his car stuck in the parking area infront of his townhouse and had to dig....He does drive a civic hybrid though so it at least it was the correct car for stop and go?

Nevermind I drive diesel.
We laugh, but I remember years back seeing the stats on the 240D, I believe it was mid teens to 60

Well caranddriver was able to get 0-60 in 4.2 for the '12 cls550. I would assume the E550 would post similar numbers around 4.5 maybe.

There are lots of things that affect 0-60 times, and the specific number is probably not as meaningful. Rather it's more of a nebulous "what the car might be capable of." A drag race is probably more informative than the specific times if you want to compare cars.

The ambient temperature, track temperature, humidity, elevation, type of tires, whether or not the sun is shining, wind speed and direction, whether it rained the day before, and probably about 100 other things affect the 0-60 times, probably more than you think. You see it all the time in racing, and everybody speeds up or slows down pretty much by equal amounts. In a sense, it's really hard to say 4.2 and 4.5 are really all that much different unless they were done under exactly the same conditions.

Also, I've read that, most often, normal people wouldn't do things to their car that would get the 4.2 0-60 time. For manuals, I've read that they drop the clutch. The manufacturers times are probably closer to what a person would get treating their car normally. If I remember correctly, the "rolling start" numbers were intended to offset the rough treatment.

as for the E class. absolutely! it is truly a beautiful machine. If I wasnt picking up a C63 in a week or so, I would be looking at a E class.
That is because they only recently started selling the C350 4matic in coupe form. No C350 4matic sedans in the US.

Look at the fine print. I bet there was a 1-foot roll-out involved and that is cheating. IMHO there is no way the 550 engine can do much better than 5 seconds or maybe a 4.9 unless the numbers are fixed somehow with a rollout or some other way... But what are we arguing here anyway? 5 seconds is pretty darn good and likely 99% better than anything on the road.

You know, I thought that's what my salesperson said... Something about they'll be hitting showroom floors sometime this month or next...not exactly sure... As you can see, any such reference/memory of C350 was all but erased once I sat in the E! lol Went to the dealership only to look, then bring the wife by the next day to make a final decision; needless to say, once I got behind the wheel, all was said and done--I was ready to sign papers!
