Well, I am taling about a new discovery of mine lol
If your door is not fully closed you march forward , you stop . The tranny selector automatically engages into P from D . I was about to get out of the car to close the gates behind me and I noticed that gear shifted into P

Very great feature

Yeah, I inadvertantly "raced" my engine once when trying to pull off from showing my credentials to the gate sentry while entering a military installation. Just had the windows tinted, so I couldn't roll them down. Stopped the car, opened my door to hold my ID out and when I did, the tranny went to "P" on its own w/o me noticing. I went to press the gas to move it along and the darn car didn't go nowhere!!! The guard was looking @ me like, WTF?!! Needless to say, I "discovered" this feature the hard way as well! That's what I like most about this vehicle...seamless integration of the "little things" to facilitate one's total driving experience... Smart, M-B, smart!

The pre-'12's display is alright, and it's a very "we are ze Germans! we give you simple easy to read white writing on easy to see black (blue) screen, zat eez eet!", but it lacks pizazz that the 12's gives. My GF didn't like i as she said the gold/brown colors turned her off to it, but I think they're warm and elegant.
I have the color display in my 2011...

Thanks for your testimony
Apologies if I am resurrecting an old thread but the W212 turns as tight as my wife's Honda Fit. It amazed me the first time I made a u-turn in front of my house and was anticipating it becoming a K-turn. Nope.

Welcome,
Happy New Year
Nope, honestly, thank you for posting in this topic as well as your testimonial

BTW, I have noticed that my car no longer engages into P when you open the door unless you activate HOLD feature when in D and open the door

Neither one of my used to be 2011 E350 or the current 2010 E550 went on P when the door is opened. Only goes to P if hold is ON, car is on N or if engine is OFF and the door is opened.

I would not like it to slam on P when I move the car slowly and want to open the door to see parking space marking or something right next to the car.

2023 XC60 PHEV, 2023 XC40 BEV
+1 ambient lighting
+1 sunshade
+1 good solid THUNK when closing the doors
+2(!) on the tight turning radius

But I LOVE the Q-U-I-E-T ride. I can hold a conversation with everyone in the car without having to raise my voice ... even with the pano open at 70mph.

All the '12 W212s and I believe mid '11 W212s should have come with the option we talked about . '09s in Europe , 10's -11s didn't have it .I also remember a video don't remember who posted a woman almost were run over by her own W212 when she opened the door because the car was in incline and accidentally forgot to put it in P or engage Parking Brake .
It was not until that I have seen that video I presumed all the W212s have a auto park feature

I love the powerful action of the trade-in value. It just sucks and sucks.

I remember that video and I must say that the car malfunctioned as the car should have gone to P if it was left on N and the door was opened.

Or the gear was left on D when she left the car, in which case it did not malfunction.

It just is that it is very difficult for anybody not to notice car is on gear if the engine is running and you try to exit the vehicle. It tries to roll immediately when foot is off of the brake pedal so I kind of don't believe that poor woman left it on D when she exit the car. So it kind of looks like she exit the car with the gear selector on N but the car did not go to P when the door was opened and this allowed it to roll.
